BMW and Mercedes Benz merging

any thoughts on this one? apparently after years and years of rumours this merger will come into fruition because of the economic situation.

I don't think it's going to happen and where did you hear that news.

There is an industry bad blood between the two companies.

just got an update... apparently BMW is not a big fan of the idea because they don't want their names to be linked to "chrysler" in any way or form

The only way that would happen is if one of the companies did an underhand share deal like Porsche did to VAG. That way making billions & taking overall shareholder control.

Often these mergers are a way of cost cutting and not a true merging of the vehicle lines.

Their vehicles would remain distinct.

I dont think this will happen.

Its a great rivalry they have right now and I thnk its helps us consumers too as they work hard to try to get our $$$ by besting each other.

I hope it dosen't happen , and not sure it will. They are to individual and we may end up with two companies spoiling their cars- or the best of one and the worst of another

Does that mean the M3 will drive like a Benz.....gosh...I hope not!

I hope they don't merge but I also think that it may be to allocate costs of their entry level sector.

So they can outsource from one company to another. Kind of like how Rolex use to outsource for certain parts for their movements before they started being fully in-house.

I don't think it will happen. The 2 have different customer base and they despise each other. Also, one is in Munich and the other in Stuttgart. It's like mixing oil and water, so to speak.

another reason that BMW will avoid this is to prevent getting into the Union. who would have thought that the japanese automakers voted down the Union and yet they feel more empowered and more satisfied with their work even though they earn almost half the salary of American automakers.

if this is in anyway political please delete and my apologies

In every economic downturn, a rumor of a BMW merger surfaces.
