Wanting to add a day date OR sky dweller (white face) to the collection as a dress watch....I have a black face sky dweller, BUT have been wanting a white face something for dress or a day date. Thinking white face white gold DD40 but can the sky dweller sub for a suit and tie watch...in todays world where you see tennis shoes in suits I know you can do anything. Just leaning towards the Sky D in white. Have expII in white but don’t consider it formal.

Really hard to to compete with this

You can wear this with anything.

For dress watches I normally pick something on leather, but if you want versatility then it’s either this with the heft or a Patek nautilus white dial (incredibly hard to find). The sky is pretty big and thick as you will know for under the cuff wearing

Cant argue with this. Also different dial variants such as the Olive I like. I would also suggest a JLC grand reverso duo face for a dress watch which can also be worn casually.

If you have big wrists the SkyD can look good, but it doesn't on me and many others.

A purist will tell you no, it is not a dress watch. It is too chunky to be. However, as you also say, there are no rules in life and it is a watch that could easily be worn in dressier situations.

I'll put it this way, if you're not going to the sort of black-tie events where you already know the Skydweller absolutely cannot ever pass, then you are probably fine to buy it and wear it as a dressier watch. The fact you're asking make me think you can probably pull it off without anyone looking twice.

I love that watch, the roman numerals are very nice. In my case I went with the silver quadrant motif dial as I really love those textures (difficult to appreciate in pictures).
In my case I use it as my daily watch, wearing casual short sleeve most of the time.

What about a used Patek 5146?

That would go very very well with a suit and shirt and tie

Day-Date for me. SkyDweller is too big for my wrist.

Or, even better yet, a 5196. The quintessential Patek, austere, and definitely 100% dress watch DNA.

I agree DD40 WG is my daily watch and for more dressed occasions I use the 5196-J.

Don't get me wrong-big fan of the DD here, but...since you already have the fluted bezel niche covered, take a look at something dressier, on a strap. Like this.
