GMT IIc or DSSD

Which would you buy first pending a 10% price increase April 1st (Canada)...the GMT IIc or the DSSD? Which do you like better and why?

I'm anxious to hear the results of this thread as I'm thinking of this exact scenario. I have said the GTM IIc would be my next watch but I've tried on a Deep Sea 3 times in the past week and man, it's growing on me. It is a sweeeeeeeeet watch....a little expensive though.

for me it's the DSSD...love it....so glad i got mine earlier. the GMTIIc is an awesome choice too if you decide to go for it before the DSSD.

I considered both and actually looked at both last weekend in Wichita. In the end the DEEPSEA won out because of it's larger size and more utilitarian look. I've had a GMT Master Pepsi in the past and loved it, but I've come to embrace the larger watches.

Cost was also a major consideration, but I really preferred the DSSD. I learned a long time ago that I should get what I want the first time out because otherwise I always tend to regret it.

When I see the DSSD from the top I love it. When I see its thickness from the side it's a turn-off. It looks top heavy and clunky to me unless it's on a really big wrist (and even then I don't like it so much). I think the IIc is much more elegant and better proportioned, but try 'em both and get the one that rocks your wrist!

Just got a GMT IIc 3 weeks ago.....still has all the protective tapes....
I have never considered a DSSD...tried it on and it's too big for my wrist!

i have the GMTIIc it's my favourite... i tried the dssd i liked it... i like them both... sometimes i wish i never bought my ss daytona...

The GMTIIC with a 10% increase will bring it's MSRP up to $8492 CAD before tax. After it's $9,595.96 CAD

The Deepsea with a 10% increase will bring it's MSRP up to $10,945 CAD before tax. After it's $12,367.85

A difference of $2,771.89 CAD after tax.

That's a big difference!

Factor in that you're more likely to get a better discount on a GMTIIc than on a Deepsea and it's almost why bother with the Deepsea.

Another way to look at it is if you were to take that money from the purchase of the GMTIIc, you could buy a pretty good used Toyota car. If you were to take the money from the Deepsea, you could buy a brand new Chevy car!!!!

From a personal perspective, I never liked the GMTIIc. I'm a diehard for the SDDS and bought one just this month. It was a no brainer.

Had I not and the prices had gone up, I think I'd think twice about the SDDS as tomorrow it's a 5-figure watch whereas it used to be 4. I'd probably have elected to just keep my old SD4000.

By the way, I love my SDDS and have no regrets about getting it and selling my old SD.

As always it's the one you like. Both are fantastic pieces, have their champions,and in their own way bring bring the newest Rolex has to offer to the party.

For me, if were a choice between the two the IIc would win out because it gives me everything I need/want in a watch. Others will pick the DS for the same reasons.

Either will bring a lifetime of happiness if you pick the one that hits your buttons.

Ah...the age old question, "Which one & why?" As always, I say buy the one you think meets your preferences & tastes best...none of us can really speak to those things for you. I'm sure you're leaning toward one over the other...9 out of 10 times that's probably the one that is right for you. I like them both & would be happy with either...but for me, the DSSD was the one I picked for a few reasons.

1. I prefer an all brushed bracelet over PCL's. If I had my druthers, I wish the DS was 100% brushed with no high polish on the sides of the case/bracelet.

2. While I've come to appreciate a 40mm case, I still prefer something a little larger. The IIC Super-case actually looks larger than 40mm to me, but I still prefer the larger heft/look of the DS.

3. I know how I use my watches, and for me, the timing bezel feature w/ lumed pearl of the DS would be used on a daily basis as opposed to very rarely using the 2nd time zone feature of the IIC. The few times I travel I reset my watch to local and forget about other timezones (since I usually travel on vacation...the only thing I want to think about is here & now).

4. GLIDELOCK. Need I say more. This clasp has become such an addiction to me I'm considering naming my first child Glidelock (Glidelocky if it's a girl) because I like it so much.

Again, those are the reasons I'm drawn to the DS over the IIC...if most of those don't speak to you, then the IIC is probably the better watch for your purposes. Good luck and keep us posted on your decision.

I'd go for the Deepsea, but that's because I already have an older GMT2, the 16760. If I didn't, the choice would be more difficult but I'd have to say I'd still stick to the Deepsea because of its different size, unique look and Glidelock bracelet. Whichever you choose though, you won't go wrong because they're both great watches!

I agree it doesn't look good on me either. Try them both on!

I just bought both before the price increase, both have great appeal ,hard to decide which one to buy.

Along with DS and PO Chrono, I'm paying off a LV Sub. Would you get rid of the DS and get the DSSD? The 10K plus for a watch is really a factor for me where I can't justify it. Only two more days to figure this out!

As stated in my quote, I did get rid of my SD for the DSSD.

Were you asking me if you should get rid of the LV for the DSSD? For myself that would be a no-brainer. Yes I would.

Some people here would think I'm crazy as to many are speculating that the LV watch is not a permanent addition to the Rolex line and may be discontinued at any time and be worth something 30 years from now.

Personally, I don't collect watches and have NO plans whatsoever to do so in the future.

I would also never go into debt for a watch and it sounds like you already are with the LV. Unless you can dump/sell that watch in the next 72 hours, personally, I would not buy another Rolex. But that's just my financial advise.

No, not in debt at all!
I just opted for a payment plan with no interest for the sub to secure the price. A 15% discount with no interest for a year is great.
I'm in no hurry for the watch....just trying to beat the price increase.
