very hard to trade right now..a lot of ad's would rather sell their watches and get the cash than get another watch and have a hard time to sell...its much better for you to have it traded to anyone here that has the watch your looking for..thats the only way...or else all ad's will just low ball your watch as iif its a piece of casio...happened to me...oh well when economy strikes back...

Yeah post some. I dont know if you saw it or not, but I was in an AD around 3 months ago and was looking at a T/T Yachtmaster. AD said bring in a trade if I had one so I brought in a mint stainless Datejust and a 95% T/T Blue Sub. I was thinking he would offer around what they were bringing on ebay, but he took the watches back and about 20 minutes later brought them back and said Ill sell you the Yachtmaster for $7.25k (retail on the Yacht was $10,375 I believe) + your Sub and Datejust+ tax. I was offended, left and havent gone back since.

(it cost them a Daytona sale, which a family member paid cash for)

I was at an ad with a friend of mine 2 weeks ago and he has a z serial 2 tone daytona and he wanted a stainless version. The ad had 3 SS daytonas and offered 1 to us for 9k cash out the door because my friend has bought 5 watches from him in 5 years. So my friend says how much plus my 2 tone I bought from you last year.He says let me see.Comes back and tells him$5500 plus his 2 tone daytona. Do the math he was offered 3500 cash for a z serial 2 tone daytona my friend said how about 4k plus his watch the ad said no way.My friend went to no less than 5 dealers in town and they all offered around 3-4k for it and didnt want to buy it at that they told him.He has since woke up and decided to keep his 2 tone daytona. In his mind modern 2 tone is worth more than SS and it should be.I know the AD well and he basically told us that new ones arent moving so he doesnt want to buy a used 1 for near what he pays for a new one.

The dealers I know who are honest with me tell me that right now they would have super low-ball prices, and probably wouldn't even want most watches. They're full up on inventory.

So, find an actual end user. That's the only place to get a decent price these days.

The sad truth is that what you see in the display cases isn't all they have, a lot of ADs now have safe stock as well, stuff just sitting there in a safe because they don't want to appear to have too many watches or two of the same in the display. It must have reached the stage now where ADs are now taking in more Rolex through their contracted purchases every month than they actually sell, my AD appears to have not shifted any Rolex in the last two months, i was shocked when i went in at the weekend and saw the same Rolex Sub LV, Sub ND, new Daytona TT (with the new blueish dial), Explorer and the usual dozen or so DJs, DDs and Air Kings that never seem to shift.

I think there will come a time when Rolex will need to work out a way of helping the ADs sell the watches, be it with a reduction in costs, taking back excess, not supplying duplicates that the AD already holds, supplying the nicer stuff like Daytona SS, Milgauss GV, etc or something else, otherwise they really do run the risk of losing a lot of ADs.

This is so true! When I purchased my first Rolex I didn't like the black MOP dial and the AD salesperson went to the safe to get out two more.

Safe inventory is always on hand!

Demand to see it.

The ADs are struggling with price rises, credit shrinking and less people splashing out on luxuries, a couple of years ago safe stock was usually just there for nicer pieces, watches stored for customers and so on, now i think that it must be growing, if my AD hasn't shifted anything in two months Rolex wise, then they'll have had two deliveries in that time and those watches have to go somewhere!

Every dealer I have ever delt with or inquired has been calling me or emailing me in the past 5-6 weeks to tell me they have this or that. The full page ill buy your watch guys have more watches than they care too.Common models will suffer the most. This will take along time to clean up the inventory. The stock market crowd might be buyers soon as a big rally is happening at the moment.

I was able to trade down at a grey dealer. Took my 18Kt Sub and gave me 5K plus a new Sea-Dweller, took almost two hours to do the deal as he had a buyer on the phone from Mexico. (I would guess since this all took place in San Antonio)

Not too long ago, I was offered an almost-new TT Daytona, same series as mine, for my SS, straight up. I was so shocked, I didn't know if it was a good offer or I should have been insulted. Anyway, I kept the SS.

The DJ doesn't get the respect if deserves in the USA. It seems to be much more popular in Europe and Asia. It would probably be a big hassel, but you'd have better luck selling it there.

They're not that popular in the UK either.

I just went by my local used place and he had a lot. Told me he wasn't in terested right now. Subs on the other hand, he said, are his bread and butter.
