AD Held Warranty Card

Anybody getting anxious if they will ever see their AD held warranty card ?

I've always had reservations on this new tactic that some dealers take. One because hey things get lost, new employees come in, the person that you dealt with may have left for whatever the reason. There are a lot of variables in general that can happen within a year that just make a person uneasy about everything. What happens if where you purchased the watch closes/goes out of business as well. I never liked the idea of buying something and not getting the complete set.

Do you really think that somewhere such as a Rolex AD isn’t going to have a fairly robust filing system, and the likelihood of a warranty card simply being lost is rather remote regardless of any staffing changes?

Check with your AD. Many posts on here saying the UK ADs had discontinued this and returned warranty cards.

I have all my cards but I’d have no issue with an AD doing this. I trust my AD to take it seriously and return it after the year or whatever.

I had a warranty card held by a UK AD from last June 2019, when I called in to collect another new watch about 4 weeks ago they handed me both warranty cards for both last year and this years purchases.

Yes WOS have had their knuckles wrapped and told by Rolex SA to cease and desist with the practice.

I think that you're giving them more credit then they deserve. So you're saying that you believe that all AD's have a specific file for every person that has made a purchase there? On top of that they, the AD would then have to keep a notification of when John Smith purchased his Rolex and also remember to mail it out. Like how Facebook does with events or photos you posted 1 year ago. But it's not for 1 person but instead for 100's of people. I still think that there is a lot of room for error.

Yes of course there are people on the form that have had their card held and a year later received it. I personally am not comfortable with the idea of it and so are a lot of others, especially given the fact that now apparently in the UK dealers aren't permitted to do so.

The amount of effort that is required to hold the warranty card is far greater than just giving it to the person when they purchase the watch. There are times when people purchase a watch and a year later in their home/apartment misplace the box entirely. Things happen

I'm pretty sure it's now illegal for any AD to hold back warranty cards in the UK. There was an article in the paper at the end of last summer about some guy who took his AD to court and won. Subsequent to that case I received both of my outstanding warranty cards from my AD before the 1 year they told me I'd have to wait due to 'a change in policy'.

I am yet to collect my first Rolex but it wouldn't bother me, surely a receipt details the watch serial number and purchase date - acts as warranty/proof of purchase no?

Yes I got called to say I could collect mine. When I asked about it they said yes they were just having a clear out, just shows they tell you anything!

UK AD do not keep Warranty Cards as of November/December 2019, Rolex ordered all AD's to return all Warranty Cards to the customers.

I would just buy from a different dealer. Once I pay a stupid amount of money for an unnecessary luxury item, it and anything that comes along with it are mine to do what I please. Period.

You’re relying on them to remember to give you back a warranty card while they are going out of business with I’m sure other more important issues going on.

There is no incentive for them not to give it to you. But if they are going out of business; your warranty card if likely the last thing on their mind.

Correct. It is Rolex SA policy for AD’s not to hold onto warranty cards, certainly in the U.K. They were told to return them.

When I purchased my SD43 last month I was given everything.

To the op, contact your dealer and they should give it to you.

I threatened my UK AD with legal action, I got all of my papers and left the UK for a Tax Haven. The UK have gotten it so wrong.

By and large, AD’s don’t go directly to bankruptcy - they tend to avoid the big screw ups that other businesses undertake. But when something does happen, they usually drop the Rolex line upon encountering financial difficulty.

Of course, the current environment is unusual and we may see several get into existential trouble.

It wouldn’t be the “fired workers” who have liability for failing to return customers cards. The cards are more likely to be returned than not.

For a corporate location that is closing, there would be better oversight by the general manager. For a privately owned jeweler, the principal(s) would most likely return the cards.
