GMT IIc after 6.5 weeks

Okay so I have been wearing my GMT IIc for the last 6 -1/2 weeks straight. Being I have not seen too many of these photos I thought I would post some pictures of what the PCL’s look like now. This will give anybody the idea of what PCL’s look like after some good wrist time.

Here is the link obviously closer to the clasp notice the nice gouge in the brushed part of the clasp. Ouch man I beat this watch up.

The 6:00 side does not take as much of a beating being on the inside close to my body. I would assume that I could take the clasp off and swap this side to the other side to even out the wear. Any thoughts on this?

Scratches just add beauty and character to a watch. Afterall, these watches are going to be here long after we're gone. We might as well enjoy them, right?

Great post! I have had my Milgauss for 7 months and have worn it every day since I got it. My links look just as scratched (if not worse!) as yours. With all the photos of pristine watches on here I was beginning to worry I was ruining my Millie! My shiny bezel and the shiny case also have some scratches.

They don't bother me but I just felt bad since it appeared nobody else scratched their watches. Thanks for posting some photos of a well worn watch (as they should be!)

Wear it with pride. Scratches can be removed from a Rolex or a Timex but that doesn't make a Timex and Rolex.

Scratches add ummmm ..... scratches to the watch don't they? Don't get me wrong, I wear a Rolex everyday. I have a few that I wear on rotation and they all get scratched up. I am very careful with them but I don't get upset when they get scratched neither. I don't think nicks, bumps, scratches, add character to watches, cars, guns, eyeglasses, your kids, etc. Just enjoy them and don't worry about them! Just my 02 cents, YMMV.

Danny thats kinda rough for 6 weeks of wear..do you use it all the time? or do you have an alternative watch?

What the heck are you doing to that watch? I've had mine on EVERYDAY for over a year and a half, mine looks still almost new... I think you need a G-Shock

I do everything in it. That’s why I bought it. I have a an Citizen Navihawk I wore for years and beat to death that needs service, new bracelet and a new crystal and I also have a older 1675 I wore for about a year. I break G Shocks I have three sitting here so I bought a Rolex after all they are virtually indestructible right? Maybe I should put this one a Kevlar Strap and save some wear, if you all think it is that bad?

Nice to see someone who isn't afraid to wear their watch and not treat it like a newborn baby. These watches were built to be worn during all of life's experiences.

Everybody keeps calling it a tool watch. Then next thing you know there are threads about taking a shower with it, sleeping with it, going to the yard with it ... ALL of these activities and more are perfectly fine, unless you take a shower 15,000 feet below water and your DSSD starts leaking etc.

It's a ROLEX for a reason and was built for the daily wear and tear. I am not suggesting to beat it up on purpose but what's the use of the watch in the safe???

i rub mine against my driveway when i buy em so that i dont fret getting that first scratch... i suggest everyone do the same..!

bah! driveway scratches are for the weak of heart! I throw mine on a belt sander for about 15 minutes!

I always thought that you buy a watch to use and enjoy. Therefore I'm not concerned if it gets a scratch on the bracelet. After all, these watches are tough and meant to be ridden hard and put away wet!!!

When I was 14 I got my first G shock and wore it and wore it and threw it and threw it and ran it over and ran it over and threw it some more just to prove to my friends it could take a beating and then one day when I was 17 pow shattered into pieces. But it still kept time. Needless to say I learned my lesson and have never since done that.

No my truck is tip top I only drive 4.5 miles one way to work. I change the oil every 4-5 years like my Rolex I guess if I wore my watch only when i was in my truck it too would look new, but that is not life for me. I am young and i am active. My watch goes where my wrist goes.

Danny - my god, man! After just six weeks?! How is it possible????

A few months ago I finished one of my pet projects in which I high polished almost everything on my SS Tissot watch (don't ask me why). I wear it half the time and it's my beater. I don't baby it at all, and the SS is 316L, not 904L. Today, it still looks pretty good - there are some scratches, but definitely not like yours. Check out my pics. Are you sure you weren't attacked by a mountain lion and don't remember?

I agree 110%. For the most part, the only time I ever take a watch off is when I am using a bead blast cabinet as I have always heard that these tiny silica beads can work their way into a watch, other than that, I wear them for everything. With that said, I've probably had my IIC about the same amount of time it it doesn't have that much character yet. I've had my Sub since '86 and an Exp II since '98 and kept them in a constant rotation until I got the IIC, sure, they've been refinished when they go in for service and look great afterwards, but are scratched all to hell and it doesn't bother me one bit.

All this after 6 weeks?! I haven't owned a watch with PCL's and I don't mind scratches, but I think this way too much after only 6 weeks!

Do you go rock climbing with it on or something?

I'm supposed to be getting my GMT-IIC in June but I highly doubt it will - and sure hope it doesn't - look like that 6 weeks later.

I agree....you put it perfectly.

People always say how they love a Rolex because it's a tool watch but they baby their watches like it's some Patek. Maybe I am young and naive but these are sport watches that can take the punishment of physical activity, so go abuse/wear it (don't throw it against a wall). I have 2 vintage Rolexes that I don't beat up because I don't want to replace the acrylics on those things and 20+ years of their existence, someone and myself have got our money's worth.

Get your money's worth and don't worry about scratches....that's what service centers are for......
