Rolex 1803 Strap Day Date

Hello guys,

Is it possible today in Rolex to buy the original fabric bracelet?

Thank you.

They will sell you a new leather/croc strap. I don't think the Day-Date ever came on a fabric strap...

The hard thing to buy is the correct gold OEM buckle.

Wouldn't a croc strap from Rolex come with a buckle?

No. Remember, the straps wear out at a rate of 20:1 to the buckles.

Are you sure Rolex won't sell you a buckle? It's hard to fathom they'd provide a strap with no option for a buckle...

I’m not sure how got the impression you have about Rolex straps and buckles but here’s how it works.

If you go to an AD or send a watch into RSC and say, “please replace the strap”. Either of them will do that and put your original buckle on it.

If instead you say, “please replace the strap and buckle”, they will replace both.

Yes, that's right. We're saying the same thing here.

But if I understand correctly, you're saying that if I have an 1803 on an aftermarket strap and buckle, and I want to get a genuine Rolex strap and buckle, Rolex will refuse to provide it. Is that the case? This is essentially the OP's position.

That order would be for 2 parts. The strap and the buckle are separate part #’s.

He would not get them if his model was only delivered on a bracelet.

Interesting and useful discussion. I believe a strap, rather than a gold bracelet, was an option for 1803s back in the day.

Do any other members have experience of buying straps or buckles from ADs/RSCs?

Yes - 1803 was always offered with either strap or bracelet, so Rolex will sell you a strap and buckle. Whether it will be the same exact buckle as original, idk - I think there were both large and small coronet buckles provided at different times during the 1803 run.

Keep in mind that if you purchase a strap, you will need to get gold spring bars for a strap. Strap spring bars are different than the bracelet spring bars. Dont use stainless steel spring bars or gold plated spring bars with a strap in a gold cased watch.
Please read the write-up that I did

Never heard of a fabric strap coming with a Day-Date.

That being said, I have personally thought of adding a croc strap from TechSwiss: https://www.techswiss.com/genuine-exotic-bands/
