For those who have safes...

Just curious what type of safe you keep your watches in. Mine is a small, cheap one, and I'm looking to upgrade. The only things I have to store in there are my Rolexes, my pen collection, a handgun and documents. Pictures if you got them please, and your thoughts...

Check out the liberty home safes. I believe one of these would be large enough to serve your needs. Gun stores usually have different models of this brand.

I too have a liberty gun safe that holds at least 12 guns and all my other goodies. Fire proof as well.

I'm with you...I just received about 20 firearms from my father who is in giveaway mode since being given a bad bill of health recently. I need a large gun safe pronto and would like to put my watches in there as well.

Check Costco or Sam's club. They've got good deals on pretty nice safes. Good luck. BTW, do you still like that GMT?

Thanks. I'll check them out as well. Regarding my GMT, I love it more every day! I can't stop looking at it!

A safe needs to do more than just hold stuff.
'
It should have a burglary rating and a decent fire rating. You are just as likely to lose your valuables in a fire as having them stolen...

I use this one for peace of mind:

That's what I'm looking for Larry, something that's fireproof/waterproof, AND burglar-resistant I guess, as I'm not sure anything is burglar-proof.

I've got a walk-in 8" or reinforced concrete all the way around, holds a bit more than my few watches...

Hey Larry, do those bolt down from the inside or is the shear weight the deterrent? I remember a member on here saying the glued on down.

A safe should always be bolted down. I've moved enough safes to know what a pain, but how easily they can be moved, a few golf balls and/or pipes and you can move them around a lot easier than you imagine.

I'm with Tools! Liberty Presidential!

2.5 hour burn rating, 26 1-1/2" bolts all the way around the door.

Here's a stock photo, mine arrives in June.

Mine weighs 800 pounds, but it is also bolted into the concrete floor from the inside....

The front door plate is 7/8" thick, Hardened steel plates and ball bearing "bit breakers" around the dial, 14 - 1" hardened steel bolts that extend into the frame when locked, UL Listed, 90 minute 1200 degree fire rated (max internal temp rise to 275 degrees).

It'll still be there when the Earth impacts the Sun.........

None better and less then a price of one watch.

Even Bo Derek uses them.

Got to agree with the Cowboy here. We can all debate which safe is the best for days on end, but at the end of the day, a high end safe with a good burn rating and bolted to the floor is a significantly small investment compared to even the lowliest Rolex sitting on one of the shelves.

I like safes, but the best safe is to insure your timepieces.

Remember no safe is fireproof all safes are fire resistant. That said, Liberty safes are good. Cannons are also good. Just make sure it has a decent fire rating. I would think anything that is rated 30 minutes or better is a good bet. Here is a quick read:
http://cannonsafe.com/fireprotection.nxg

Also, as others have said, make sure it is bolted down.

Lastly, your most valuable possessions should be at the bottom as this is the coolest area.

I used to believe in safe deposit security for all my watches and my wife's expensive diamonds. However, about 11 years ago, a fine family jewelry business near my hometown was going out of business. I walked in and made a cash offer to the owner for an ISM, TR TL 6 sided protection. I guess that means it is tool and torch resistant as well as fire proof. This monster is a massive safe; cost me more to move it to my house than I paid for it. The moving guy had to have a special rig and huge metal plates to place it in my garage.
No more insurance except on wife's engagement ring and her plat Rolex.
