SS Daytona AD wait list

Hey guys, sorry if this topic has been done to death but I would like to know what the consensus is on wait time for a SS Daytona from a AD. As i know this answer depends on a lot here is my situation:

1. I live in Geneva, Switzerland.
2. I owned a Daytona previously but it was stolen from home in Geneva during a burglary.
3. The main AD I have put myself on the list with knows I had the watch (they valued it) & are aware that it was stolen.
4. The AD has me as a registered customer (I spent $2k on an oyster bracelet for another watch).
5. The address they have in the system is in Geneva & they have had it in the system the same for several years.

The watch was actually stolen in 2018. It was the second Rolex I had stolen. The reason I didn't try to replace it immediately as because I honestly had post traumatic stress & thought that I didn't want the hassle of having one again. I reduced my collection to just a 16610 (bought it to myself for my 30th & will never give it up).
As they say, time heals all wounds. I want a Daytona again.

How long did your AD tell you the wait would be. Right now no one knows what the supply will be with Rolex shutdown and then though the end of the year. So unless your locked into the next watch or the one after that, it's purely guesswork how long the wait will be.

No one knows exactly, but if I were to hazard a guess, I'd say anything between 2-4 years. I am sorry for your losses, the experiences sound awful. However, pleased to hear you are keen to get back in the Daytona game.

It really depends on your relationship with your AD. Bigger spenders have shorter wait times. Sorry for your loss OP.

My wait was:

Black dial = Just under 3 years. Previous purchases were 116613LB, 126710BLRO;

White dial = Just over 3 years. Previous purchase 116710BLNR;

I was on the list from the day of announcement at Basel (March 2016).

I do not mind to wait for 9 months to 1 year in NYC.
Thanks a lot.

Another alternative is to find love for other brands. I bought my last Rolex in 2016.

Since then I’ve have found a brand I like wearing more than Rolex: Panerai

My guess would be that your name isn’t even on the list! If I read the post correct you only have a purchase history of 2k with this AD? You’ll always get bumped down by everyone buying a PM watch even if your on the list and only buy SS. Some AD’s people say don’t even consider SS as “purchase history” because it’s a given sale for them anyways! Anyone who can afford a PM will most likely join the list even if they plan on selling right away..... at the same time though every AD is different and some wild things have been happening recently! A local AD just had a Batman on display and sold it to a buyer with no history....

I am either on the list or they went through an elaborate charade. I was taken into the individual private rooms. They pulled up my account & had me complete a form & sign it. They then entered a lot of data into an iPad.
Granted 2k is not a lot to have spent. However, at least they had me set up as a registered customer & I am based in Geneva (vs a lot of tourists who might register interest but can't exactly pop down in 15' of receiving "the call.").

From what I’ve heard about your location it sounds like you are indeed on the list! It’s always a guessing game, I’ve had an AD write my name down on a piece of paper in which I for sure thought was bullshit but called a month later!

Would be a pleasant surprise if I get called this year!
Which model were you getting?

White 116500

I was:

-first to contact them (frantically calling as soon as they opened)
-first on the list
-first deposit
-promised the first one they received (I knew that was BS)
-have a relationship with them

Still took one year, and that was at a much easier time.

I waited for 2 years for the 116500ln white dial. And bought 2 other non Rolex pieces from the AD while waiting for the Daytona C.

It was worth all the wait. Thanks

Sorry for the loss Pete. But happy to see you're back.

Yes, purchase history matters. And also (maybe more importantly) purchase potential. Meaning, if I sell a Daytona to this person, will that make him want to consolidate all his future and frequent watch/jewelry purchases with us.

Good luck either way.

Wow that's an elaborate wait listing procedure, and it sounds like they do want to keep an accurate call list. The wait time, unfortunately, is an unknown for you since your purchase history isn't going to move you up on the Daytona list. If I wanted a Daytona I would do exactly what you did, contact my AD and add my name to the list, then I would look for one on the secondary market that is new and unworn, in the Rolex warranty period, a documented complete set , buy it and enjoy the watch. When I do get the call I service and clean up the old one and sell it, so I can keep the one with my name on the card.

Sadly you and so many others want a Daytona
Many ADs now prioritise high spenders eg over £100k

Given your circumstances I would like to think the AD would let one Daytona go to a real customer who ran into some bad luck rather than just the usual earmarking for a gray market buyer.

Do grey market dealers typically offer/pay more to an AD than a retail consumer does for a watch ?

They would certainly need to provide a risk premium for the AD. Were they caught doing this they will lose the A part of AD & just become a D.

Well they buy in bulk and often the stuff not popular and so yes, get priority.

So from an AD a grey dealer might purchase 10 watches at a time, including a mix of fast selling and slow selling models ?

Likely. I’m no grey dealer but you spend let’s say several hundred thousand on the gold DD, DJ, etc. your going to get first dibs. The are able to bundle large amounts of watches together. Given people don’t buy jewelry anymore bundling is really how most AD’s and jewelry store/AD are able to stay in business. Most rolex buyers are 1 off purchases and AD’s want/need more than that to keep the light on.

As you are talking about the AD valuing your stolen Daytona - surely you had it insured and therefore received the market price from the insurance company.

Therefore you should just buy now using the cash (market value) you received? Unless I’m missing something - insurance is to make sure you don’t suffer loss..

I did but it doesn’t seem to cover what the new ceramic is costing on the grey market.
Looking at what I got in the payout I’m not sure if I got a great deal or not. What’s the market value you think for a 116520 white dial 4130 caliber?
