New s class leak
Hey all. What do you think of the new 2021 Mercedes S Class? Appears to be entirely touchscreen infotainment (a la A8), and perhaps feature level 3 autonomous driving..

It looks great, steering wheel is on the wrong side but I am sure thats just a teething problem.

I’ve been an MB fan my whole life. Not sure about this one. Rear end looks ordinary at best. Hope I’m wrong, sometimes thing look different in the flesh

Not sure if everything we see will make it to production, but the steering wheel looks like something from a more sporty vehicle. Not sold on the rear either, but might just need to see some better pics.
At least it makes a nice change from the leaked 2021 Sub pics...

Totally agree! Rear end looks almost Toyota-ish! Also wtf is the screen so close to the steering wheel, and what’s the compartment behind it!? Not a fan at all, and I love me some Mercedes!

Yeah, the arse is less appealing than that possessed by a Baboon in heat.
I do wonder if the German car companies in particular deliberately produce popular new models with aesthetic design flaws. The logic is that lots of people will rush to buy an iconic, class-leading car like the S almost regardless of how it looks. Then when the time comes around for the mid life-cycle facelift they can cheaply and easily correct the flaws and generate a wave of new interest in the car.

New s class leak
Quote:
The image of the original W202 C-Class is etched in my mind. I was a kid when it came out and it put me right off Mercs. That car had an utterly gopping rear end that looked like a Vauxhall Belmont - you guys across the pond probably didn’t have the pleasure of seeing that car on the roads.

Nope, it is hideous.
The interior leaked screen is awful. Made me change my plans about buying a car after seeing this abomination. I was waiting for this and was very disappointed. This artsy shot intentionally shows very little

I used to be a huge MB fan and have owned 6 in the last 25 years. I owned a 2014 S550 and was not impressed and moved on rather quickly. Too much tech if it is possible. These cars values sink like a rock and as the MB GM at my dealership told me, "Don't ever own one of these without a warranty." I don't like the styling and MB has lost it's way with quality and value.

The rear isn’t appealing but I have always been a huge MBenz fan.

Not a fan of touch screen controls in cars unless all of the same controls are on the steering wheel. Mainly a safety concern like txting while driving.

Too much electronics. Big battery drain when not running, better get a battery tender. Screens are a distraction.
German quality no longer the best. I’ve been very happy with two Hyundai Genesis. Better quality for way less money. Not paying big bucks for no stinkin’ plastic star.

I think it's beautiful.
The best designs, don't always 'grab' you straight off. A black one of these, will hiss past you on the motorway, in the rain, and you'll think, wow,....wish I'd bought one. It'll have 'presence', be assured of that. I had an S500 - (W220) in 2001 we were driving from Sussex in UK to Antibes in France. We got a call as we had just left Lyon. Family emergency! Had to turn round and head home. About 1300 miles in around 16 hours, round trip! We weren't hanging around! Parked the Merc', back in Sussex, she sat for two days before we loaded up and headed back to the South of France. Car didn't miss a beat......I however, was totally Donald Ducked! |

I just bought the 3 year extended warranty on my '16 S550 4matic because of the God-awful depreciation and low miles (30K in 4 years). Having said that, it's a great car to DD and a wonderful highway cruiser (at 25 MPG). It's solid, heavy, comfortable and impressively fast for its bulk and mileage.
I'm not saying I wouldn't order another one in 3 years, but from the pics here: 1. The rear looks like a $20K Nissan. Or Kia. Or Toyota. Or Hyundai. 2. Not a fan of all that Piano Black. 3. Something looks off about the steering wheel to my eye. 4. The screen. If I wanted a Tesla, I would buy one. 3 more years should be at or near the mid cycle refresh, so maybe things will look better then. (?). |

Interesting how the SUV design language trickled down into the S class. I haven’t really warmed up to the SUVs yet though. Maybe in the flesh it’ll catch on?

It kind of reminds me of the Hyundai Genesis. I wanted to move into an MB at some point. My household has been BMW for many years.

I’ve owned four S cars in the past plus a slew of other MB products. Hard pass on this one. Their recent design language has me lost for words. The S has always been a stand alone, no resemblance to any other car on the planet. I see E, GLE, GLB and others on this one. Now it’s just another MB car. The rear is hideous, looks like a Japanese car. The front grill protrudes well beyond the headlight cluster and just look forced with it’s odd shape. As for the interior, why can’t they simply integrate the screens into the dash cluster. What is it with the need to float the screens. Porsche and Bentley do this so well, they have he best interiors. Also, those vents are so cheap looking. I’m sure fit and finish will be excellent but as far as luxury and ambiance, not seeing it. Not interested in driving a space ship.
I’m certain the tech will be world leading as always and it will sell but something has definitely been lost. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Um the front looks like a Hyundai Genesis and the rear an a8. I think if I were in the market I’d try to scoop the current gen at a discount. Jmtc
