Considering the following trade (AP RO for AP ROC)

Hi guys,

Just received a call from the AP boutique informing me that the ROC 26331st Panda/Silver Dial which I had expressed interest in is available now.

I currently own the RO 15400st Silver Dial and love it really much. On the other hand, I am also very attracted to the additional contrast on the ROC 26331st Panda/Silver Dial. Given the overlap in the silver dials between the RO and ROC, I think it would be a more sensible choice to only keep one of them - either the RO 15400 Silver Dial or the ROC 26331 Panda/Silver Dial.


Some other considerations:
RO 15400st Silver Dial was purchased from a grey dealer.
The ROC would be my first purchase at the AP boutique to start a relationship with them.
Other models that I would like to eventually pick up: 15202st and 26574st.

Curious to see what you all think.

I think 15400st silver dial is gorgeous, if you have a choice to change 26331st to blue dial would be perfect. It would be good to have both of them in your collection.

After you get 15202 in the future, you can sell your 15400st at that time.

given that you’re also going to try to get two more RO models, one of them the 15202, i think the chrono is the better choice since it’ll be more differentiated from the rest than the 15400 which is very similar to the 15202

Stay with the 15400. For me simpler is better in that comparison.

At 41mm I prefer the ROC, better balanced dial, plus I love the unique pushers.

Also, I think, but could be wrong that you might be able to change the boutique purchased ROC to another dial down the road like after a year or so? Maybe worth checking. Additionally, I think the brands current price increase strategy will position you nicely holding the 15400 and enjoying it while waiting for the 15202 to come around before sending the gray purchased watch back into the gray market as it were.

Just some additional self-analysis...

My ideal AP collection would be either one of the following:
1) 15400st Silver + 15202st

• Able to rotate between silver and blue dials; three-handed and two-handed complications.
• Both are dressy watches - I spend close to 70%-80% of my time in the office, so these two watches will get plenty of wrist time.
• Personally love the needle-like seconds hand on the 15400 and the silver dial. I would prefer the 15400 silver over the 15500 silver.
• Cons: Have to source for the 15202st in the grey market at HUGE premiums since I won't get to start a relationship at the AP boutique.

2) 26331st Panda/Silver + 15202st

• Offers a more interesting rotation: ROC Panda for casual occasions, and the Jumbo for dressy occasions/office work.
• Love the ROC Panda/Silver dial more than the RO 15400 Silver dial.
• Will be able to start a relationship with the AP boutique upon purchasing the ROC Panda. Since I have spent money on an AP RO, might as well recycle the same money to build a purchase history at the AP boutique by selling away the RO 15400 and buying the ROC 26331?
• Cons: No open caseback in the ROC Panda and non-hacking seconds (may not sit well with my OCD).
• Cons: ROC may be updated with a new in-house movement?
• Cons: No guarantee that the Jumbo will be allocated by the AP boutique with only a single purchase history.
• Cons: May consider getting the Daytona 116500Ln sometime later and the ROC may become redundant?

Personally, I like the silver dial more than the blue dial, so 26331st blue is not in my consideration.

Keep what you have and save for the 15202. Talk to the boutique and tell them your real interest then wait. You can be lucky to get a 15202 as your 1st watch there; it happens sometimes, but it takes time...

Is Singapore a lot easier than HK to get a ROC at a BT? I am not having any luck at all in HK.

15202st and 26574st will be very hard to acquire at the boutique. If you have these two timepieces, you might not want to wear 15400st any more.

You're lucky that you prefer 26331st silver/white dial over blue dial. The silver/white dial you can get any time in the secondary market at the same price with boutique/AD, only blue dial that they are charging at the higher premium.

Last year I had to take a quite similar decision. I went for a white dial chrono 25860st and a black dial 15300st. For me it´s an almost perfect combination.

So I would go for the 26331 silver/white dial as it is also quite dressy and fits with any outfit in the office. It´s also more interesting than the clean 15400 which I would try replace by a 15400st blue/black dial on short term, and by a 15202st in the long run. The latter would be the ideal combination for me.
