Wearing AP and keeping it looking fresh
G'day all,
Been looking at pics taken in the "Which AP are you wearing today?" thread, and am curious to know how other AP owners manage to keep their pieces looking new and largely scratch free. Obviously, those with ceramic bezels are less affected, but do you only wear AP on the weekend/special occasions/ under shirt cuffs? Not a major issue now since its winter here and wearing mine under sweaters. Interested in your thoughts. Cheers, R

I wear several watches in rotation. As a result, no particular watch gets constant long term wear.

Same with me. And, of course, you have to adapt your behaviour i.e. touch things, open doors, etc. with the left hand only. And most importantly: Beware of zippers!!!
For any kind of outdoor work I do not wear any AP or any watch at all |

I wear a piece everyday whatever Im doing. My rose gold offshore looks like it has been through hell, my ceramic diver has chips in the bezel, my steel royal oak has faired pretty well though, just one ding and maybe 4-5 proper scratches (of course hairlines all over...). Im also part of the exclusive club that actually has taken a Offshore scuba-diving.
So yeah....Don't ask me, Im public enemy number one.

Ceramic bezels will definitely look better over time and will take moderate use much better. However if you end up smacking it hard against something it could chip.
Steel bezels really have the true royal oak look but if you want it looking fresh you need to be careful. Quote:

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I don't think my wrist-awareness has been this heighten before Loving the ROC and will continue to wear it with care. PS. Definitely got weird looks the other day when i thrusted my right wrist behind my back quickly to avoid unexpected shopper coming at me

The watches are delicate but ready scuffs here and there don’t really show up in photos. Generally speaks ROOs are more durable than ROs and anything ceramic holds up better

I think most of us here have wrist awareness now, often learnt on the backs of Rolexes and Omegas etc, and most of us have respect for the watches and their price points so we don't beat them as it were, while the average young trust-fund AP status owner will be more wild with it, altho with them wanting to take Insta pics of them now they are probably more respectful of the watches and their appearance now.

actually wearing it under shirt cuffs/sweaters/jackets is how you'll get a lot of micro scratches because of cloth/fibers or whatever constantly rubbing the bracelet. i'd assume rolling up your sleeves would keep a watch the most "mint". that and never resting your wrist on anything

Never head much wear and tear on my watches. The Rubberclad bezel is supposed to be the first to get dinged up, but held up surprisingly well so far.
On the stainless steal models the scratches and dings are much more visible due to the colour obviously. |

I have 3 APs. the 44Ti ROO is on black rubber and is my daily. I wear it with metal chains and it has fine scratches all along one side and i don't care. its my daily and it will bear the scars of daily life. its not a hard to get or special piece, but it is special to me as my first AP and also it is the most versatile one imho and its scratches make it unique to me and frankly i just don't care.
the other two are much more special and i do baby them--ROO44RG camo limited and 15500silver dial. they get maybe 1 day a month and I don't wear them with my other chains lol... |

It’s more a mindset change to stop being overly concerned about damage.
Took me about 6 months, but wear my diver daily and it has the odd ding/scratch but still looks amazing
