Got my first Rolex

I used to roll my eyes at all the watch junkies I knew. Didn’t understand them. Didn’t want to. The last watch I owned was 8th grade and it probably costs $30.

But I just received a most incredible gift. And I get it folks, I get it. Nothing like the weight and heft of one of these beauties.

I don’t know what I’m going to do with it. I’m not even sure best way to get it appraised. It’s awfully expensive to service and clean - and I’ve read mixed reviews as to whether you even should. (Or at least, don’t buff and replace any parts). Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just enjoy the ride my friend. As far as servicing goes, yeah it can be a bit $$$ depending on what it needs, but its like a well running engine and only needs it every 5-10 years.

Congratulations. I love the white gold day date. Would love one with a silver stick dial myself.

It was a gift...so getting it properly serviced is a small price to pay for years of enjoyment to come.

Take it to a Rolex service center and have it completely overhauled.

It's not a super rare model...I would not worry about having those end links straightened or replaced...And if movement parts need to be replaced, what of it? Rolex will have the proper parts.

Sweet! A vintage DD. Excellent way to start. And to be honest an excellent way to finish too.

Put away $5 a month and after 10-12 years you will have about enough to service it.

If it is keeping consistent time, ie loosing or gaining something in the region of -5 to +5 every day consistently, eg gaining +4 each day, all is running smoothly. Use time.is web site to check this

Give it a good clean, especially in between the bracelet links with something like a babies soft Toothbrush, first brush and soap and warm water. Don’t submerge it until you get it pressure tested at a Rolex AD. Make sure the crown is screwed down finger tight

Welcome and congrats

Get the watch to your local RSC and let them service it, polish it before sending it back to you glistening and sparkling, you will also get a Rolex guarantee, 2 years I believe.

Then you will have what will look like a brand new watch yours to enjoy for many many years to come.

Congratulations and welcome to the Rolex family.

Thank you Everyone!!! i'm loving it. I may or may not keep long-term (explicitly told to do with it what I want to enjoy life), but for at least through this year, I'm a proud owner. Will get it serviced/cleaned. Why not. I know I'll never recoup that money if I sell, but so what. $1000(?) to show off the watch is fine.
