First Seiko
Have been wanting to pick up a Seiko for some time, specifically a diver. This will be my first Seiko. There are many great choices and I want to make sure I’m not overlooking something. I’m considering the skx007j1 and the srpe03 (after swapping the steel bracelet for a black silicone Seiko). I’m also a fan of the spb079, spb077 and spb087 line, but didn’t know if the added cost was worth it. Any recs on which one to go with? Feel free to chime in with your favorite Seiko diver under $1k.

Skx007, Turtle 777 are good starters for a Seiko diver. I also enjoy my Pepsi Arnie.

First Seiko
That’s what I wore today slightly modded on an Uncle Seiko President bracelet. Absolutely love it.
With a $1k budget you can buy 3 solid Seiko divers. There’s no way to settle on one! But if it’s just one, a slight increase in the budget to get SPB143 would be my choice. Or get one each of the variety of SKX, SRP and SNJ references for a G-note. Sent from Crapatalk

SKX AND SRP and you'd still have enough left over to buy 2 more.

Uncle Seiko. Google it. It’s a bit pricey but BELIEVE me, you will not be disappointed. Well worth the investment and upgrades the watch 10 fold. it’s very high quality Sent from Crapatalk

I second the SRP777. I wear it on an Uncle Seiko V2 waffle and it just oozes cool. I’ll be picking up my second Seiko, the 62 MAS re-issue. I’m waiting for a call from my AD. I just cant decide between the SPB 143 or the 149? I’m new to Seiko divers and am really impressed. My Sub and GMT are getting lonely in the watch box...

I’ve had everything from SKX to SLA and find the SPB be my sweet spot
There is a noticeable jump in quality from the SKX line, especially in regards to bezel action, case finishing and timekeeping My 051 |

I would go with the turtle. I went with the turtle because there was far too much overlap between their other divers and my sub (i.e. standard generic diver profile). The turtle is a unique watch shape, has some heritage, and though large has a short lug to lug length and is versatile on many straps. I like the tuna (and own the seiko arnie) and really appreciate their history, but they are not the most versatile watches. I opted against the samurai's, and mini MM largely due to size considerations and/or lack of heritage/standard diver look.

I know it’s a lame answer, but you really can’t make a wrong choice. I’d probably go with an SRP777 or an SKX007/9. I don’t know why I said “probably”, I actually did choose those two.

Your going to love it! I recommend the Uncle Seiko waffle v2. I swapped the buckle and tang with the Seiko rubber and it looks and feels amazing! I wish I could add a pic but every time it says the dimensions are too large?
