Narrowing down selection

Been searching up and down the forum and other sites for my first Rolex. I've narrowed it down to:

- Submariner 116613LN
- Datejust 41 126333 Wimbeldon. YG, Fluted, slate dial, jubilee

Both I'm sourcing around the $12,000 range slightly used box and card. I figure i buy one and the other I'll want next but which one for my first one.

Any insights or recommendations?

Generally the sub is far more popular than the Roman numeral datejust. 12k for both I hope? The RRP on sub is $7500, v steep paying a markup for they kind of ubiquity

Get the one that fit your current lifestyle most of the time first perhaps.

Not a TT sub.

Narrowing down selection

Hi.
It is better to choose the first watch that will fit your everyday use and your current style.
Rolex will never go out of fashion.

I would get the two tone DJ41 and then a SS sub. Having one two tone and one SS sports watch would be w better duo imo as it covers more ground.

Stay safe.

My first would be a SS model and I would pick a Submariner. I would then look at a possible TT model should I want one after owning the SS.

Sub first. It’s classic, iconic. Then expand your collection as necessary. I was in the same spot when choosing my first Rolex. I’m very happy I went in that direction even though I had access to pieces which are much harder to get (now).

The DJ is more appropriate with dress clothes. If your mostly casual, either would
do. Try using WatchRecon and Chrono24 to search and also check out the trusted sellers on this forum.

Good luck!

I like the bluesy better than the black/gold, and the blue for the datejust. But if between these two...I would go with the sub. I have a sub and datejust - way more often I go for the sub, feels much more substantial on my wrist. If you are wearing to work often/dress, then datejust. If not, go for the sub.

I absolutely thought this as well and it’s right. It’s iconic and there are so many other watches that are modeled after it, and it’s what non watch people often think of when they think of a Rolex. I went back and forth forever, but in the end I decided I wanted a piece of that Rolex history and liked the look of the sub the best. But in the end we can just give your our thoughts and opinions to help you ask the right questions to yourself. You have to make the call that’s best for you and get what you really love. Enjoy the hunt!

Wow, thank you for the insight everyone! For the record the price of 12k was for each watch not both. Checking out and chatting some of the forum boutique sellers now to get my new piece. Almost pulled the trigger last summer but now I am ready and in a position to have a better option range. Will post my incoming selection soon...

Submariner first or a Blue or White dial DateJust 41 on a jubilee. Can’t go wrong with either.

I would choose a SubC first. It's versatile, good for daily wear. You'd love it and nobody would criticise you if you did wear it with a suit. Although it doesn't always fit under the cuff.

I'm in a bind about the DJ. Personally I'd go with a DJ36 if you were going dress watch or TT.

DJ41 if you were going SS and enjoy larger watches. The DJ41 wears like my Aqua Terra (I tried it on the other day) but just seemed to large with the fluted bezel/TT in that size. But on the blue SS models, it wears well. YMMV

You waited this long for a sub, wait one more week to see what the updates are. I am keeping my 114060 but not against adding another!
