All Gold, Every Day Watch?

Happy Friday everyone!

I was just thinking, (which is remarkable in itself, at least PRODUCTIVE thinking...) about my Grail, a WG Daytona with one of the new faces; (see picture). I drool over this picture whenever I open it up, and some day, I'm going to get a FANTASTIC deal on one! (Are you LISTENING Anastasios?! ;). But I've read a couple threads from people that have AG, I think they were both WGs, that say they don't wear their AGs as an every day watch because the gold scratches too easily; I guess much easier then SS. I'm of the opinion that if you spend that much money, you enjoy it to it's fullest (i.e. wear it every day), but am I Naieve in thinking this? You AG owners, is your watch worn every day? Or only a weekend/special occasion type thing? What does everyone else think?

Well, if I was lucky enough to own one, I would wear it every day and have it polished when it was scratched up enough to make me crazy.

I agree. I'd love to have a yellow gold Rolex, and I'd wear it on regular day duties and remove it for construction/home rennovations/gardening type stuff.

The sales manager at my place of business has worn an AG Submariner everyday for over 10 years now. He wanted that watch for so long that once he finally obtained it he chose to wear it everyday, which I personally think is the right thing to do. Why spend that kind of coin on a watch only to keep it locked up? Buy it, wear it, enjoy it. Repeat.

If Tony Soprano can wear his all gold DayDate as a beater (and it takes a beating ), then you can definitely wear this! BTW, my absolute favorite Daytona- great choice!

I am a surgeon and I wear my AG watches everyday, the only problem I have is either the choice of Rolex or PP. The Rolex usually wins! The only time they come off is in theatre or bedtime. It's only a watch, why buy and stick in safe?

Hey, I'll help you with your problem, just send me the PP, as you seem to use the Rolex more

Maybe he's an actor?

Anyways, a Rolex is meant to be worn everyday. Whether it be SS, YG, Platinum... wear it, enjoy it, don't worry about it.

It'll be working long after you're not.

I usually wear my watches a week at a time and don't play favorites. Similar to what Karis said, I buy it to wear, not to keep it stored or for flipping. I tend to be a little more careful with the PCLs. But as you can see there some character scratches already and I have no plans to get it polished.

If I were fortunate enough to have an all gold Rolex, not only would I wear it all day, I'd wear it to bed! I want every possible ounce of gold Rollie love!

Dad wears the DD I gave him every day...if I ever come across another one, I wouldn't hesitate to wear it daily (if I can ever get my AP off my wrist).

That's right. Throughout human history, yellow gold has been an obvious sign of bad taste or low class to those on the lookout for that sort of thing. Stainless steel and white gold, in contrast, have always been a sign of sophistication and good morals. Anyone who would spend extra money to take the color of gold out of gold certainly knows this truth.

PS I like the look of WG watches the same way I like the look of platinum and stainless steel; but if I am going to pay for gold, I prefer YG for that kind of money.

I wear an all gold watch almost everyday (though I've been wearing my SS Daytona for two days now). I don't see a difference in wear and tear between the gold and SS watches; and I don't care anyway. I bought the watches to wear.

Long story: I used ot be 'extremely' careful about my watches (ok, I still clean them with distilled lab grade water before putting them back in the safe) but not allowing anything or anyone even 'touching' some of them. Then my daughter was born. I celebrated with a YG DayDate. A few days later, she grabs my index finger with her tiny hand and I understand: life is so short; it goes so fast. One day, all my watches will be worn by mi kids. I still take very good care of my watches but I do wear them. After all, they are WATCHES. My kids are far more important than a scratch here or there (hate to see scratches, but I take a hug from my daughter anytime over any watch).....hope this helps.

Issue for me would be how bad it would scratch and how often would I need to get it buffed. My coworker got a new watch a few months ago and it looks like shite now. It is SO scratched that it just looks wrong with a suit, IMHO. In contrast, my SS sub looks new like the day it was born and probably will look the same 10 years down the road with no fuss.

Purely a practical matter for me.

Killer looking watch, BTW :)
