Hello Everyone,
I am seriously considering buying an Explorer 1 with Mark ii dial. What are the wait times with the AD? I’ve considered pre-owned, but with prices around 7k and above, am I better off waiting and/or hunting for one with the AD? I’ve contacted AD’s in my area, but they seem to dissuade me and seem to want to point me to other models. What do do?

Order and wait or pay the premium or buy another brand until the Rolex arrives.

There’s MANY similar watches to the Explorer. And less than 1/2 the price.

Without a prior purchase history with most dealers, this reference will no be attainable via that route.

The few hundred bucks is NOT worth even 1 week of your time.

Just pay market value.

Its currently the WORST time to buy any watch imho. You know something seriously is going to burst soon when each and every single model is hot. Makes no sense at all. This model was never popular or strong at all.

I'm even seeing IWC/Omega etc.....all picking up in prices now. Absolute nuts.

It is nuts, I agree. But people are generally spending less so it kinda makes sense.

Be patient and wait it out with your AD would be my advice. You'll get offered one eventually. How long have you been waiting?

Any AD will point you in the direction of available stock instead.

Just go pre-owned and save yourself from the waiting time for one to appear at an AD.

There are lots of Explorers on the grey market. Some in mint condition with stickers still intact.

If you want it now you can buy it now. If you can wait, and you can find an AD who will put you on a list with a real expectation of delivery in X months/years, then you can sit tight and wait.

I've been in this situation twice. My AD's lists were closed. So I went grey. I have never gone grey for a watch I could get listed for. I don't mind waiting. Your mileage may vary.

Do you see yourself wanting multiple watches in the future? If so, it’s worth waiting to start a relationship with your AD. If this is you’re one and only for some time, just pay the small premium and go secondary market. These aren’t too crazy above MSRP.

Great choice watch either way!

With interest rates non existent and landlords getting screwed by legislation re evictions I imagine no crash soon, gold bullion and Rolex all the way.

Wait times are really variable with this watch.

Some lucky folks even find them in the case on occasion. I had to wait a few months personally.

I’d get on a list. Wait six months. If you don’t hear back by then, buy from a gray dealer.

This. Looks like about a $1000 (less if you don't pay tax) premium on C24 with plenty of choices. One seller has 4. It could be a long wait at an AD with no history and not worth the aggravation IMHO.

I agree this is not a time to be a watch buyer, unless you can find at retail from an AD. Market is really hot. Everything Rolex is moving and prices grey are going up.
The current market demand reflects the pent up money that was not spent on travel, vacations, work attire and meals out, the 25 percent decrease in production this year from the factory closure and a flight to marketable goods due to currency uncertainness from crazy exchange rate changes and stimulus spending all over the planet.

The SS sports line which is what many people look to buy are selling well over MSRP on the used market and are not available from ADs without a relationship. I welcome getting hammered by an AD for that BLNR I am looking for.

Relatively speaking, the up charge on that model isn’t too significant, so I’d go gray if you are impatient
