discontinued 2020?

with the new releases to be announced next week, do you expect some references to be discontinued?

Probably... Air-King, Smurf, Hulk, Deep Sea, YMII come to mind as possible contenders but there are certainly others that could be discontinued as well.

i think the milgauss could be a possible contender as both the design and science behind it are dated. i bought my gv back in december 2008.

I'd rather think we might see an update to the Milgauss sooner or later.

OP 39 will be replaced with OP 40 with the new movement, if I have to name one.

Though I think whatever getting updated will just have new reference numbers, instead of being totally discontinued

Every model is discontinued. Rolex is introducing all new models across their entire range.

Deep-Sea and YM2 were updated two years ago, heavily doubt that they would get rid of them right now.

What do you think happens to price of Smurf if discontinued and steel variant is made?

Would WG price go up/down or stay relatively the same?

I think there’s a chance the Platinum Daytonas may be discontinued.

Hulk & Smurf seem like good candidates for a DC/refresh. It has been pointed out that Rolex and Tudor have been in step on recent releases (BB GMT/BLRO, TT SD43 and TT Chrono). BB58 Blue may be a sign that we are about to see a dark blue sub. I imagine other models, notably the Explorer II, will be pushed back to a bigger announcement next Spring.

Can’t imagine Rolex would discontinue more than 1 or maybe 2 models (as in remove them from the lineup altogether, not just retire a 11x and replace it with a 12x). I’d venture that we say aloha to one of the Deepseas, if anything. Don’t really know what to make of the 116610LV, but if we’re speculating I don’t think the 116619LB will be discontinued.

It's not just those two, it's anything Submariner related. All of them are gonna get upgraded, which is the logical evolution, they're all up next for the movement upgrade. People are right that there's going to be a blue Sub as both white and yellow gold Subs will get upgraded, as well as the ss, tt models.

The only question is whether anything else changes, I suspect Rolex will update something else even if it just says it and physically actually does nothing. Like the "reworked" and "redesigned" lugs on the BLRO which everyone thinks are thinner when all measurements have proven they're the same, but because the spring bar holes were indeed different they could make this claim and the fanatics will do all the work for them(with claims of how the lugs are different and so much thinner, like 70% thinner) when they're exactly the same.

Seven more days, this happens every year.

From a business standpoint, I would imagine the worst sellers that make the worst profit may be hit. I have no idea which ones.

Definitely would nice to see a steel variant of the smurf if they discontinue the WG version.

Rolex does a full digital transition.

Only 5 case models.

SS, TT, WG, YG, Plat. Prices are 6k,8k,14k,14k and 20k.

You can then buy the watch face for a few thousand more.

Also, you may purchase but must wait the other guys who bought before you download and update their watches.

The original anniversary Sub LV was produced for over six years and the anniversary Milgauss is still in production for about a decade now, and there are many other anniversary watches in production now that I think of it.
DD, Platona..etc

Well see if this is right. The only models that haven’t had updated movements the last few years are:

Explorer I
Explorer II
Milgauss
Submariner

The next few years including this one should be easy to predict somewhat. If they release an updated Milgauss this year I might consider one depending on how retro they go.

Sorry for the stupid questions but I am new here. If a model is discontinued does it generally increase in value?

Not a stupid question but it is kind of a loaded one with many variables.
Usually some do, but not everyone does. Previous YM 1/2, Explorer 1/2 not so much, Deepsea or Datejust either just to name a few. It just depends, if people can’t have it anymore, seems they want it more just because. As a consequence some do start to become more “valuable” in the market.
