Lucky me for acquiring a Tudor Harrods edition!
It was almost 17 months, when I emailed Harrods from their website, inquiring about the Tudor BB, Harrods edition. In my email, I stated that I lived in the US, but wondering if my name can be included in their waiting list. I did not expect much about that inquiry. Somehow, at the back of my mind, I don't want to get disappointed. A day later, to my astonishment, Harrods said yes to my request. But reminded me, as a policy, that I need to pay and pick up the watch personally at the store. Harrods told me that it would be a two-year wait. I gladly gave my personal information, and I told myself, now I'm one step closer to my goal. Months passed by, I almost forgot about the watch. Not that I don't like the watch, but because there's a doubt within me that I may not get it. That dealers usually just get your information with no intention of selling you anything. With the pandemic, I spend more time browsing online. And then, the idea of checking the status of my watch seeps in. So again, I emailed Harrods for a follow up of how long still, would be the wait. A watch sales associate informed me that the watch under my name is ready to be picked up. My head was spinning because of the excitement. Then, all of a sudden, a realization hit me that I might not be able to get the watch. In the email, I was advised that I have 7 days, including the weekends, to purchase the watch. Wait, I told myself, 7 days? Even if I gamble my health; fly to London during the pandemic, I will not be able to succeed. Quarantine alone will take me 14 days waiting time. I’m ready to email them again and maybe appeal for an exemption with my current situation.
Is it not we are in the middle of the pandemic? Is it not we do business differently? Contactless shopping, that’s the prudent thing to do to minimize infection? But a big “NO” for Harrods. The realization of losing the opportunity to purchase the watch made my stomach sick. I’m almost there. What should I do? Then I search online about online shopping services. Mostly, companies are focusing on giving customers a virtual address to shop around online. I called relatives and friends, regarding someone that they might know, who lives in London that is willing to help. All with a lukewarm response. I’m asking myself, if I’m selfish for asking someone to risk their health to buy the watch for me. On the second day, I posted in the forum, inquiring for a third party company that can accomplish the task. Several members volunteered to pick up the watch for me, which I appreciated very much. In the forum, someone suggested contacting famous vloggers on YouTube; based in London and ask for assistance. So, I scanned all the channels that I frequently watch. But to my disappointment, most of them have no direct email address except for one dealer/vlogger. With desperation, I emailed him about my dilemma and even suggested about featuring my story on his channel. The third day has passed, and I don’t have a clear game plan to secure the watch. I’m up all night, trying to figure out how I can succeed. I can’t accept defeat. Then, while checking my wallet, I saw one of my credit cards that has a concierge service. I told myself, I’ve been paying an annual fee in this card but seldom use the perks. In the middle of the night, I called the direct number for the concierge service and pleaded for help. The agent took all the information and told me that they would do their best to help me out. The fourth day has passed and still doubting myself of beating the 7-day deadline. At this time, I'm already telling myself, just post in the forum and offer the watch for someone who wanted it. While browsing my email, the concierge service informed me about a third party company based in London that does the in-store purchase service and shipping. Euphoria is in the air. I did email the company, and later on, I called them to make the transaction faster. It’s the fifth day; I paid the watch and their service charge. The contact person told me that they could accomplish the task on the 7th day. Good enough for me. I was praying that no hiccups would happen. On the 7th day, I called Harrods and gave the person's name that would pay and pick up the watch. Later on, the watch was picked up and processed. Shipping the watch is another story, but I don’t want to bore you reading this. The watch is now with me. I just received it today. It would be a memorable watch to add to my collection. Truly perseverance and luck go hand in hand. Just telling the story about this watch makes it special for me. So maybe in my situation, I could say, if there’s a will, there’s a way. Fantastic story, that watch is a beauty. How expensive was the concierge service? I’ve always wanted a Bucherer Black Bronze
Congratulations on your well played & hard fought victory. Wear in good health! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

@khofman: 10% of the item's price plus 30GBP for going inside the store and paying it.

What a journey! I’m glad you finally got it in your possession.
I just got the email from Harrods this morning that my spot is up and watch is ready for my collection. I expressed interest last Nov and was quoted a 4-6 month wait time lol. I just picked up the blue BB58 last week and feel this is a better fit so going to pass. |

@JodyHighroller: I'm glad that you are buying a watch that you love. Not the hype. Blue BB 58 is also on my list.

Congrats. Just to say, I live in London and am regularly down at Harrods, in case anyone else from abroad ever wants assistance picking up such a watch.
Funnily enough, a week or so I popped into the Tudor concession there and it seems they are still taking orders of this watch, with a 9-12 month lead time. |
