Why can't I wear my Rolex?

I have had my Deepsea for about 6 months now and hardly wear it. I sometimes put it on to sit watching TV and to go out for a meal/drinks but can not bring myself to wear it for anything more than sitting down.
I put it on last night when I got home from work. it looked so sparkly and shiny that I thought "I want to keep it looking like that and not ruin it." So, I took it off and put my Omega on - the Rolex went back in the drawer wrapped up in a watch cloth. I have a Seamaster GMT (as you might have guessed) and wear it for EVERYTHING. I love my Rolex so much but why am I babying it SO MUCH? Help. I want to wear my Rolex more but just can't.

STOP IMMEDIATELY. I too fell into this trap early on. However, I soon learned--and it hit me quite forcefully--that truly we only have a speck of time on this earth. We need to choose what we want, wear it, and appreciate it every moment we can because these moments are fleeting.

When I made this decision, I started to wear whatever watch I wanted all the time. I did not worry about scratches or dents or dings or whatever! Ultimately it no longer mattered (especially since RSC and many less expensive watch experts can make your watch look like new at the drop of a hat).

Wear it and enjoy it NOW! Save it for the future and I promise you, YOU WILL run out of time to maximize the pleasure you can derive from these fantastic timepieces.

I know where you're coming from,I've only had my new V series SD for 2 weeks and I've scratched it already next to the HEV (no idea how and when)and it was driving me mad (sad I know) its back at my AD now having a little polish.
I think part of the problem is that it is so highly polished it shows up every little mark,I tried to polish it out myself with a micro fibre and made it worse
They told me yesterday the guy that got the other one had only had his for 15 minutes when he he came back having scratched it.

Thanks KingKongKelley. This is usully my veiw of life. Honestly, I am always saying "life is too short" and I really meant it after my father died when I was 27. I'm 36 now and those 9 years have gone by in the blink of an eye. But...it's just so shiny and new.

I must admit that I've been the same with a lot of things in the past. I even had a car that I bought new and eventually sold it 14 years later with 23,000 miles on the clock. I did enjoy it, but probably not as often as I should have.

I also like to keep things in an almost brand new condition and tend to look after my possessions very carefully, but I'm now also realising that life is too short to buy things you want and keep them in a drawer. At the end of the day, most of us here want people to see our beautiful watches so we need to wear them and use them for what they were intended.

It's also true that our watches can be brought back to an as new condition any time we want.

I got my GMT-IIC at the end of March and I've worn it every day.

Please, please, wear your watch and enjoy it!

You could always buy a second one just to look atand keep it like new.

Otherwise, yeah wear and enjoy it, remember when you get it serviced by Rolex, it will come back looking like new again.

Also admire your watch but don't look too hard at it to find the scratches.

I took my DSSD diving on Sunday for the 1st time. We were down at 130 FT in the dark. When I got home I noticed I had a few minor scuffs on the clasp from our adventure together

I just got my Sub back from RSC BH a week and a half ago and there are already a few scratches on the bracelet on the 12'oclock side.

That's life. They will be taken care of during a service.

Scratch it on purpose. Seriously. Take something and lightly scratch the clasp or the underside of the watch. Therefore you will realize it is not perfect and wear it more often. That watch is meant to be worn in extreme conditions.

Now, take it out and scratch it! Not too much or too strongly......

I guess I'm just getting old. I bet when laying on your death bed you won't say "damn glad I didn't wear that Rolex all those years and scratch it up". You will say "WHY THE HELL DIDN'T I WEAR THAT ROLEX ALL THOSE YEARS WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE!!!!!"
What's more important? A watch not worn in perfect condition or a well worn watch full of great memories and life experiences that can be handed down to a son or daughter to do the same.
