New guy with a specific question!
Hi all,
First of all, I would like to say hello and that I am happy to join the community on here! Secondly, to celebrate my graduation from university, my birthday, and my admittance to law school, I decided to get myself a Submariner. Five weeks ago I walked into an AD and the sales associate graciously allowed me to Special Order a 116610LN after some conversation. I will be picking the watch up on Friday or Saturday - any ideas on a nice little gift that I could give the SA (female) as a thank-you for allowing me to get this watch for retail and end my wild goose chase? I'm assuming you all would know better than me! Kind regards, Stef |

Welcome Stef
There have been a few threads on this subject recently. Personally I don't believe in gifting AD/SAs, but some others here do.

They'll get their commission, so that's all good. A nice smile and a sincere "thank you" should do it.

If you're asking others of an opinion to gift a SA, then you're already half committed to do so, more than likely you have the actual gift in mind?
Congrats to your graduation. |

Welcome!!
You can gift if you wish. But it's similar to giving the guy in the bike shop a gift when you buy your bike. Or car salesman, or sofa salesmans. To summarise a bit weird and not so appropriate for them doing their daily job. Irrespective of whether it's a gent or lady. When in doubt. Chocs, then everyone enjoys and it's token cheap cost. Except the diabetics |

Congratulations on all great accomplishments in your young life. And congratulations on the fab watch as well.
Bear in mind that some companies have strict rules on bribery, and “gifts” need to be declared if above certain monetary value. I think if you want to gift your AD (and I think it’s a wonderful gesture by the way), I would give them a card with a heartfelt message, alongside perhaps a box of chocolates, or a bottle of wine. It is always the “thought” that counts. |

Unless it’s a family friend or your SA of many years with whom you’ve bought many, many times from. And in that case you’d have their personal number anyways and would give them said gift outside work to avoid above situation |

Nothing wrong with giving a thank-you gift, if you really feel like the person deserves it. These are tough times, a gift no matter how simple can make someone's day.
Something inexpensive so that it wouldn't look like a bribe or kickback. A box of cookies or chocolate, maybe? |

In my humble opinion, nothing other than a gracious thank you. She is just doing her job and you are giving her a very hefty chunk of money. There ws a time when we as the purchasers were rewarded for spending so much money, its funny now how we feel we are indebted for having the opportunity to give them the best part of 10K!

A box of chocolates would not harm the future.

It is different gifting your SA, but the Rolex market is different. I purchased two watches from my SA over the past year - last one at the height of the Covid epidemic - and I got her a GrubHub gift card. Was thinking of getting something the entire store could share, but I left that up to her.

My AD treats me well and actually does me favors, but i don't buy him anything.
It's a retail transaction. I reward him by purchasing shiny baubles for my wife and me.

Do you give a gift to every salesperson that takes your money? If not, why not?

Not sure how appropriate it is tbh, I've seen countless threads asking the same question. Would you gift your car salesperson something for working to get you a car? Don't get me wrong, it's a nice gesture, but not necessary. Chocolate I suppose so that everyone can enjoy. I just sent a quick thank you note (email) after my last purchase (not watch related).

I don't care what people say, I say no gift.
You want to give someone a gift for taking your thousands of dollars. It should be the other way around. This culture has become something else..lol I understand being nice and sending one's AD or sales rep a card on special occasions and whatnot. But to perpetuate the habit of one always thinking they have to get the AD a gift for a sale they depend on for their livelihood needs to stop. Almost becoming a bribe culture. Contrary to what many believe, The AD and sales rep need you more than you need them. If you feel the need to get your sales rep a gift, then you owe every sales rep you come across in every industry your dollars end up a gift. Even the quiet girl at your favourite bubble tea stand deserves a gift in that case. A simple "Thank You" and follow up "Thank You" with a friendly reminder on what else you desire should suffice for any sales rep with integrity. |

A bottle of mid-tier rose would be a thoughtful, tasteful gift for a lady. This is what I would do lol. This is of course assuming she drinks. I treated my SA to beer and wings after his shift the day I picked up my Daytona at the AD. Congrats on your achievement and your watch!

OP is asking for ideas on a nice little gift, not asking for opinions on whether or not a gift should be presented. Love the continual chip on the shoulder from many here...A bottle of wine is always good. If the recipient doesn't drink or doesn't like that varietal then it's always easy for them to re-gift it.

No gift. A thank you card when you drop by a month later (obviously with your watch on) seems like a better way to go. Refer your friends and save up for a Datejust. Your referrals and continued business is the best gift you can give.

+1. Refer a few of your law school buddies. That'll go a long way for both you and the SA.
