Lucine Rochat Chrono GMT

Hi all,

I’m interested in a Lucien Rochat that’s come up on Chrono. It’s a panda dial Chrono and gmt with (what I think will be) some sort of Valjoux movement? The watch is stamped 1055 and is 1993 vintage.

I know nothing about this watchmaker other than he sold out in 2006 and retired to fix watches, and that he started in 1970 or so making well crafted, careful pieces. The watch is the sort of thing I’m looking for (a sports gmt with a robust case), but I was wondering if anyone could give me more information on the likely movement and the piece in general.

I’m assuming it’ll be Tritium lume in 1993 (the dial is unmarked).

With the subdial layout, it looks like some kind of 7750 variant...

I think it’s a lovely looking piece, but my partner thinks it looks cheap!

It’ll be robust, then, if it’s a 7750 — they run forever, don’t they?!

I once owned a Hamilton with the Valjoux 7750. Yes, they are super reliable. I wore the hell out of that watch and did not baby it. In 15 years of ownership, I had to have it serviced once (quit working). That said, they are ubiquitous, so parts availability shouldn't be much of an issue. I like the watch!

I’ll need something that’s hard wearing, as my life is pretty aggressive! I went with Bremont for their shock absorbency tech. With fewer jewels and a more robust mainspring balance, the 7750 should be as good. Shame that Laurien cheaped out on installing a unidirectional bezel. I expected a bit more from a one-man-band.
