Thoughts on HODINKEE Benrus?

Curious what people think. Looks like a fun watch.

It looks good, a bit on the expensive side, in my opinion. But also not unexpected.

Looks nice but 1700 is not happening. Not quite the travel clock but pretty steep for what you get.

Wow lot of haters. I love tool watches so thought this was pretty cool. Is it that their special editions are over-priced that is the issue?

We won’t mention the fiasco that was their travel clock will we?

They are no longer (& haven’t been for some time now) an independent or unbiased news outlet and their media content is only there to facilitate (or indirectly spruik) their retail outlet or the brands the retail outlet sells.

This is certainly true, to a point. I think Hodinkee is trying to build a conglomerate of complementary businesses within the watch / luxury space and get the maximum synergies between these. So they are in no way independent and will go far to push things sold by their retail arm. However, they do also on occasion produce nice "on the wrist" reviews and interviews (e.g. "Talking Watches") which I personally still find enjoyable. But you are right, never take their verdicts as neutral or unbiased - and beware of overpriced "collaborations".

Their insurance quotes were far cheaper than others, but I do get annoyed by their endless shilling of crap.

Thoughts on HODINKEE Benrus?

You can build that watch to your liking with a NH35 or ETA movement, 316 stainless case, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, take to your watchmaker to assemble and pay much less than half the price.

Looks good I like the fact it has no text on the dial. Wear in good health.

I just picked one up.

At least the fact that they say "BENRUS is donating a portion of the proceeds of each watch sold to the Boulder Crest Foundation, which supports combat veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder. " takes the sting off the price a little.

I love simple clean design.

It's got a similar vibe as Unimatic, probably worse looking, for 3x the price

Yup I like the charity aspect.

Also it’s got a cool contour going on as the lugs curve with the wrist, which is really noticeable when wearing.

Not a fan. For that price, I’d rather get a Sinn
