Thoughts on 118206 and is it discontinued?

Is Rolex still making this 36mm DD in platinum? I did not see it on the website. I tried it on at the AD and loved the weight of it. However, sometimes I wonder if it is too small. I would love to hear from some of you that own it. If you have pics, especially on your wrist that would be appreciated!

I own an Explorer II and a Daytona Ceramic in White and want to add a PM model.

The PT 118206 has indeed been discontinued. I have a 18239 and love the 36 MM size, don’t think it is too small !

Really wish they still made it in platinum, the updated models end links are so much nicer looking/better articulated for smaller wrists imo. Hopefully they one day make it again.

Not sure how to add pictures, I should probably figure that out. But with ~6.5” wrists, 36mm is as big as I go on anything except the tool/professional models. Even as a Millennial (some have accused me of being a hipster), I remain drawn to the classic aesthetic and I have no interest in trying to create some new “look” this many years after the onslaught of the dinner plate-sized watch. That said, they’re probably ok for people of stature that allows those models (anything 2x8xxx) to retain the classic proportions. As a slender guy who’s not built that way, it’d just look out of place for me to go past the 36s.

As for the 118206 being discontinued, I also tried finding a “128206” last year before going for my 118206. Not because of the 128xxx endlinks, actually, but really hoping only for 2 things: 1) the ceramic sleeves to prevent bracelet stretch (can’t remember if the 128xxxs actually got these, or only their larger counterparts), and 2) the longer 70-hour power reserve of the 3255 movement. Since the model never came into production, I moved forward with the 118206. It isn’t the only 3155 I own, and I’ve been very happy this movement over the years. It’s pretty hard to fault a movement Rolex saw fit to use for like 33 years.

Been super happy with it, and it’s a totally different vibe than my YG fluted/champ DD36, to the point where only those who’re “into” them would even know they’re even iterations of the same model.

You make great points! I agree sometimes too big is too big and I do like how understated/reserved it is with really no one knowing how rare it is.

Would love to see pics of your 118206! Thanks to you and others here for the comments!

There's a great wrist pic of the 118206 in this thread:

Big Arabic numbers on a dress watch? Was that the popular look on watch forums in 2009?

I don’t think of the Day Date as a dress watch. It’s a go anywhere do anything kind of watch, which is why it appeals to me. I don't need a dress watch ever, so that dial combo makes it more casual. I’d rock that with a Hawaiian shirt and a mojito then with a blazer at the club for dinner and a nightcap.

Thanks. It’s probably the only reason I haven’t traded it in for the DD 40
