Explorer vs Milgauss

Started a thread awhile back asking which of the two I should keep.

Felt like I needed to trim back the heard.

After going back and forth between these two, decided they BOTH should STAY. At least for the foreseeable future.

I find the Milgauss to be just so comfortable

There is something so simple about these watches that I like. They both fly under the radar with ease.

Good decision on the Milgauss! The MG is a great watch and you have the best color version, which is now discontinued (perhaps am biased , mine says hi ! ) :

Sure! Its an Omega band, reference 032CWZ003436. The band is 20/18 mm deployant style and is made by Jean Rousseau in France for the Omega Speedmaster Snoopy.

It’s still a really nice watch and bear in mind you could change just the hands or even the dial and hands at service to MK2 configuration. Rolex would do that for you as both MK1 & MK2 are the same model number so it’s not like it would be a frankenwatch.

The thing about the Milgauss in comparison to the Explorer (which I've often been tempted by) is that it has a certain spark which the Explorer just doesn't have imho!!!

I'm starting to enjoy colorful watches after being a black on black Sub guy for years until I got a Pespi GMT dial watch. I pick the funky green sapphire crystal Milgauss! Even the white dial Milgauss with orange indices is a cool watch! Honestly, the Explorer with no date or numbers at 12,3,6, and 9 would bother me the most.

Do you know this with absolute certainty? They will do dial swaps yes but I haven't heard of hand swaps or either to make it look like a newer watch.

Have read it before on the forum that people have had it done - as I said MK1 & MK2 are both same model number so there is no reason why Rolex would object

Even if they did you need to pay for a full service as the same time so that's £550 plus the dial and the headset on an exchange only basis so you're looking at easily over £1k. The cost used between the MK1 and MK2 is less than they so would be silly to do.

But the answer to the question is still no, you don't know that with absolute certainty, you're just guessing.

I don’t know what your problem is, as I say a couple of people have had it done on this forum before and yes of course it was as part of a service. So I would wait if I had a MK1 and wanted to do it until the watch was due for a service. Even if it did cost a bit more than trading in for a pre owned MK2 I’m sure both the OP and most rational people would prefer to keep their original watch as they knew the history of it from new. However, as I knew this explanation would still not suffice for you, I have contacted Rolex London RSC who have done dial exchanges for me in the past and asked for confirmation. You will of course have to take my word for what they told me but should you also wish to contact them their number is 020 7024 7300. Obviously please adjust accordingly with the relevant International prefix code.

So, yes they would swop the dial over as part of the service. Costs are as follows:

Service - £550
Dial & Hand Exchange to convert to MK2 - £450

Total cost £1000. Then, should you still not be satisfied with this answer, I also asked if I could keep the original dial and hands once they had replaced them to which they replied by all means yes but that would add 50% to the cost of the dial and hand exchange so another £225. So if I had a MK1 Explorer 214270 which I had owned from new and would have purchased for significantly less than the current price now and when it was due for service and I preferred the MK2 look but had the opportunity to keep the Original MK1 Dial and Hands should the watch be more desirable and valuable with them on in the future would I do it, yes I definitely would.

So yes I do know for certain and knew before because it had been on the forum previously unless you are insinuating either I was lying about that or the gentlemen who had posted they had had it done.

I don't know why you're getting your knickers in a twist. I asked for if you knew with certainty and you didn't. You've since called RSJ or Kent and found out so you now know with certainty.

The whole point here was not to give out information as fact that you didn't know with absolute certainty. You happened to be right and I'm glad that you are but my point still stands that at the time I questioned you, you did not know and we're guessing.

I would rather pay the £1-1.25k and keep the existing watch if the MK2 I was getting was used. If not I would just sell and get the Exp1 from an AD and take the 10 year warranty WoS offer and make a loss smaller than the service and MK2 conversion St James would charge.
