AP Issues

Dear fellow AP owners,

I am in dear need of help; I have a RO Day-Date 26330OR

It has had a very gentle life, minimum wear stored correctly, I recently took it to my local service centre in Sydney as the watch is now 13 years old, and I wanted to start wearing the watch. Since receiving the watch back in July, I decided to wear the watch last week; I noticed it had stopped. I thought perhaps as I did not wind the crown before placing on my wrist, it was me. I now have borrowed my mates Bernard Favre winder to test the watch so to speak, and the watch began to run slow and now has completely stopped...

Now, I know you are all going to say take it back to the SC, however, HOW to best approach the issue with the watch technicians. I would really appreciate your help on this one.

You don’t really mention if you have actually wound the watch by hand (manually).?

I wound the watch about 10 times before putting it on my wrist, Is there something I am missing? I don't have issues with any of the other Auto Movement Watches.

It doesn't make sense that the watch would still stop on the winder as well.

Appreciate the quick reply.

10 winds is like 20% of its capacity so to speak. You aren’t placing the watch in an optimal running curve.
Then, if you aren’t very active in movement, as in sitting at a desk most of the day, your power reserve will deplete, and simply just stop. Even on the wrist.
By placing an unwound watch on a winder, you may not get the initial inertia to start the watch’s mainspring. Therefore not actually winding it at all...just like stoping on the wrist.

40 to 50 turns of the crown will give you a full wind/power reserve. Just like a Rolex.

Hi Guys, Quick Update, I wound the watch as prescribed above and wore the watch yesterday, I then placed it back on the Watchwinder last night, and as of this morning we are still keeping perfect time, I will report back in 48HRS.

Did you bring you AP to the Master Watchmaking at Castlereagh st?

My ROO is due for service but a bit reluctant to service it there - unless someone can vouch they do a good job
