Buying my first Rolex - Negotiate with AD?

HI

I found a really nice AD in USA and requested 4 watches (spread out through 2021)

But I wanted the first one to be Everose Daytona with Oysterflex.

What would be a reasonable % to request for discount? 15% ? Tax free?
Definitely want to build a relationship after everything this AD has done for me.

Thanks

Wouldn’t hurt to ask.

What would be reasonable to the AD is the discount they are willing to give you.

If you don't ask you don't get. Nobody on this forum can get a discount for you.

Ask them for a discount. See what they say.

Take a look at chrono24 to gauge market value. It looks like an unworn 116515 is going for more then msrp so my guess would be no, but no harm in tactfully asking if a discount is possible.

Unfortunately, I think discounts on PM are largely a thing of the past.

I would ask , it’s your money but with today’s Rolex’s demand discounts are tough.

I doubt that you can get discount on PM Daytona with OF but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

If they think that you're a tough buyer, you won't be their VIP anymore, you will be on the bottom of their waitlist for hot items.

Just curious - you’re buying your first Rolex, so what did the AD has already done for you?

How do you know it is a really nice AD...... Without having any history with this shop?

Please tell us ALL four watches you are committing to purchase — along with their list prices. I’ll happily contribute what I think you should pay.

Is the watch you’re looking for in the case and they can’t sell it. If not chances are no discount. I picked up an oysterflex Daytona recently with an established relationship; no discount.

Good luck regardless and keep us posted

I call BS on this one. No AD in the USA is going to want to deal with selling someone in Holland, 4 watches, particularly hot models. Unless you want 3 Datejusts and the Daytona they are just being nice on the phone.

You won't get a discount and not only that, you'll likely peeve your AD off in the process with the watch and other likely watches you want.

It won’t hurt to try but be prepared to pay full MSRP if they are all in demand pieces and be happy that you got them.

Doesn't hurt to ask, I guess. Rolex absolutely has the upper hand right now though.

I think this is a very important point, and one I’ve mentioned before. It doesn’t hurt to ask for a discount, but it’s important to be tactful and know when to back down and stop negotiating — and that may be after the first “no.” If you annoy the AD/SA with your negotiating, you can rest assured they aren’t going to be calling you up for “hot” timepieces when they know they can make easy sales calling other customers who are more than happy to pay MSRP with no questions asked.

I say it doesn’t hurt to ask but do not expect to receive any discount. The days for discount on a Rolex are long gone.

Doesn't hurt to ask , but I wouldn't expect one. When AD's have waiting lists, and most watches selling for more than MSRP on the grey market, its unusual to get a discount.

I wasn't expecting this many responses, thanks to those who were positive =)

Main reason I'm asking what's reasonable is because I saw a thread here from 2016 discussing this plus I had a small chat with someone who used to work as an AD.

I'm trying to prevent myself behaving like an entitled idiot asking for too big of a % off.
Wanna keep both parties happy.

2016 was a very, very different time. Right now, always ask for a deal, but expect to pay full price. Something along the lines of "can you do a little on the price" will usually suffice without annoying anybody.

Of course. I'm very good with negotiations because of just who I am as a person. I'm lucky in that sense.

Thanks for all the advice.

2016 was anything you want in the case except for Daytonas, sitting there ready to buy. The only question was how much of a discount you could negotiate. BLNR, Hulk, Sub, didn't matter. Today, it's good luck finding anything, and even better luck trying to get a discount.

Is this actually due to shortage of supply and higher demand or an artificially created marketing strat?

Or something else?

Best case, tax free. Worst case, no watch at all. OF Daytonas are getting harder to come by.

Demand is my best guess. Covid probably didn't help the matter either.
