Birth year watch

Hi everyone,

I have recently inherited some money and would like to buy something special to remember the person by... I was born in 1995, and I would like to buy a birth year watch, probably Rolex, and probably GMT or Sub.

I own several modern watches, however I think this is a little different, and its a good way to get a 'vintage' non ceramic watch in my collection. And maybe when I am a lot older I will look back and still remember the person.

So what would you go for, for a 1995 watch, GMT BLRO? Sub or something else?

Thanks

Rolex 16710 Coke or Pepsi or Rolex 16610 Submariner or a Omega Seamaster

From mid-90s sports Rolex, I would look at a GMT (inserts and bracelets), Sea-Dweller (authentic of lug holes) or Daytona.

Then I would think whether any of those might have some connection in some way to the person.

I’d go for a Day-Date, solid gold and the president bracelet raise it to a totally different level in my opinion

You can never go wrong with a Submariner.

Surprised the BLRO has got so many more votes than the Sub. No wrong choices of course, GMT complication and colours are very nice

Can’t go wrong with either! The 16710 is a great choice because you can source other bezel inserts and jubilee/oyster bracelet and basically have a few different watches in one

Just buy a watch you like. The birth year watch is silly forced sentimentality and doesn’t really make sense. Just get something you like

If you must buy a 1995 Rolex then try and find a 14060 Submariner...no-date is the way to go, imo! I bought mine new in 1996, and it has been on my wrist nearly every day since. You won't regret buying a 14060!

Goldeneye was released in 1995, would be cool to have a 007-spec SMP300 from that year.

Yes, definitely feel old here. My birth year (1960) Rolex is a 6694 Oysterdate with original alpha hands and blued second hand.

I'd go for a 16710 GMT or a 16600 Sea-Dweller if you want to get a birth year Rolex. But make sure you really like whatever you buy -- that you'd also really like it even if wasn't made in your birth year.

Zenith Daytona. Perhaps yellow gold since SS is so crazy anyway.

Day date unless you’re set on sport model then I’d go gmt for reasons others have mentioned

Go for a 16710. You can change inserts and have coke, Pepsi and black, as well as jubilee and oyster bracelets. Faded versions of inserts too.

Wow, 1995. What a fun year. Still have callouses on my fingers from that year. I hope you are chasing more tail than watches

Completely agree. focus should be on the condition rather than the birthday year. If the OP has chosen the model finding a specific year is likely to be a limiting factor leading to compromises with the condition.
