What's the story on this Daytona?

People keep posting this beauty and it's driving me crazy! So is it a relatively new model (I'd never seen it before)? It seems to be really rare as I can never find it on ebay or any TRF or Timezone sales forums. Is there any reference # or name to search for it besides "white gold daytona"?

It's just a standard 116509 with one of the new dial variants.

I really like it. It's quite a busy dial but not too so and who couldn't love the contrasting of the sub dials?

So, what would happen if you took this Daytona in for service since this is not a standard dial on a 116509? Would they service it or tell you that you have to replace the dial with the standard one that came with the watch?

Thanks
Allan

It's a real beauty. Yes, some might think the dial is a little busy, but aren't all Daytonas? This is not a subtle watch in any case.

It is shown on the Rolex site but with a brown leather band with a WG deployment clasp. (Model 116519) Looks good, but I'd have to go with the WG Oyster.

Only one little obstacle stands in the way..............

Can you put that dial in a 116520? Where could I find a dial like that?

Ditto and great question! Is there any reputable place that would sell this dial?

Because it is not a standard dial for the SS Daytona, you would have to purchase the dial in a country where an AD would sell you the dial. In other words, not in the US.

This is a proper dial variant for both the 116509/519 in the very latest catalogue (not the the one that also incorrectly assumes that the meteorite dial isn't original to the 116509) so there would be absolutely no problems with Rolex, even if it were fitted on a D series or the like.

Now if this dial had been fitted to a 116520 then that's a completely different matter. Rolex would fit a standard white or black dial and charge you for the pleasure of doing so.

Is it just me or does the '2' on the dial look like it's overlapping on the sub-dial, the '10' seems to be fine so it can't be meant, can it?

Yes, the 2 is right on the border of the sub-dial as is the 1 in the 10. That is a very full dial. I could very easily learn to live with it.

That is certainly a beauty. Meteorite has been my favorite for a long time but this dial is really catching up fast.....

As always, your words are wise... Although - that green GMTIIC has won me over, I don't regret choosing that one AT ALL!

Saw it in the flesh at a used Rolex dealer here the day before yesterday.

One word... AWESOME!!

V serial number looked brand new. They wanted a litle over $19,000. I drooled, I looked, I left.

I know people are loving this dial but I have to post a dissenting opinion. The dial and the arabic numbers just look strange to me. The font seems very modern or something and just doesn't seem to flow with a classic face like the Daytona. Of course to each their own, I just think it's a strange combination that doesn't quite mesh.

Flame away!

Disregard that. I have actually bought the same watch with a black dial in the past for just over $16,000 for a gently pre-owned Z, but then I sold it, as it was around Christmas and I needed the money
You can find one pre-owned in that range, and even new for just under $20k.

I'm not a fan either, the Daytona is cluttered enough as it is, it looks like Rolex have heard all the complaints about the dial being hard to read and instead of clearing it up or making it larger they've stuck bigger numbers on the dial.
