The Rolex Odessey

I don't know about you, but I started my life with Rolexes with a TT DJ that I bought about 4 years ago. I loved every moment with it, having fulfilled a many year dream of owning a Rolex.

Then I discovered TRF. And the trouble started. The sports watches got to me, and I had to own one. So, about two years ago I bought a GMTIIC, which once on my wrist, never left my wrist. Then last month I bought the trio: a Daytona, a DSSD and a Milgauss GV. Since then, I have been rotating the four latest additions.

Today I decided to give the DJ some light of day. I put it on m,y wrist, and it smiled back at me. You know, even though my sports watch collection is a source of great joy, I believe the TT DJ is the true classic Rolex. Class and style, roll up into one watch. Nice to have my old friend back onmy wrist again. I think it will make it into my rotation.

What's your thoughts?

Heh! I'm the same way. Ever since I got my GMT IIC, my 2 DateJusts have taken a back seat, but on the rare occasions I DO put one on, it smiles back at me too! Gotta love that DateJust!

It sounds like you've come full circle on your odyssey. Indeed, we often look for change; sometimes just for the sake of change, but when you have worn a watch for many years it does grow on you. Given the chance, the old watch will once again shine!

I think the Datejust should be part of everyone's collection. It is by far my favorite Rolex, despite joining TRF before getting my first. I always read stories on here of people who regret selling their Datejust to fund another purchase.

Whatever you do guys, NEVER sell your datejust. It'll haunt you in your dreams forever. Most classy watch ever built imo.

My first was a 6694 precision purchased in 1974 and still with me in fine working condition.

For the past 30+ years I have been building up my collection.

I joined TRF last year, by that time my collection was nearly complete. I still need the YM and Millgauss to complete and Oh yes the DS.

Excellent post, Brian!

It's difficult to explain, but when I have a Rolex sports watch on my wrist, I look at it and think "That's so cool". And when I have a DJ (or a President) on my wrist, I don't think anything. It just feels so good.

I've always wanted a Rolex and bought my first one a year and a half ago. It's been on my wrist everyday since I bought it. I happen to now own two sports Rolexes but have never owned a Date Just but do plan to buy one in the future. The only problem I see is after buying one Rolex you catch the bug and want more!!!
Addiction is such a bitch.....

The DJ was my first 19 years ago. I wore it every day until I finally got a Subdate last Febuary. Since then my wife has worn the DJ! It looks great on her! I see it and think what a great watch!

I believe that there are more TT DJ's out there than all the sport models combined.....

It's been around longer than most of them too...

Wow. I'm quite surprised at all the laudations for the DJ. I always thought this was a forum of tried and trie sports model fans. I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one who loves the DJ. So I ask, why is the resale value of DJ's weaker than sports models, if they are so widely loved?

Maybe because they are so widely produced....

You can get great discounts on a new one too, so that may inpact resale..

Hi Brian..... Daytona is #1 in my book.

Nothing wrong with TT DJ for a more elegant look.

I never look elegant so not DJ for me.
