6466 - authentic or repainted/remodelled?
Oracles!
I’m about to purchase may first ever Rolex, for daily wearing. I’ve fallen for this 1945 6466 model (I know it’s only 31mm) but that’s perfect for me! Wondered if you can offer some advice - no better place to ask!; 1) does the dial look re-painted/elements replaced? Owner says it is fully authentic but it looks in incredible condition for a watch of 75 years, is this possible? Also, any idea whether the pink gold case was available in this model? 2) ballpark-wise, what kind of cost would be appropriate for this watch? 3) any “red flags”to consider with this model/age/condition? Thanks so so much |

Dial is refinished.
Overall condition is hard to tell from those two pictures, it does look like it has quite the dent on the 10 o'clock lug.

A refinished dial can still be authentic - it won’t be “original”, though - as long as the dial plate is one of Rolex’s suppliers in that era. So if you like the look, and it has a fair return policy, and it is running well, then you may take a chance on it. Just be sure to have it opened and inspected upon arrival to be sure everything else is up to Spec. I don’t think the lug is dented at 10 o’clock, it’s likely an optical reflection of a light stand used to make the photo. But it’s worth asking. The crystal may be the wrong one or aftermarket but you won’t have any problems reading the date! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Here's some on Chrono24 for comparison. Any idea of service history?

Thanks all! Have asked for service history but response was that it is working well, just been serviced and keeping time. Maybe I should ask for a picture of the movement?
Was this watch model even made in 1944 or introduced later? |

Mid 50s most likely, first 3 of the serial number would be enough to date it. Ask the number of digits in the serial number.

It looks to me as if some of the gold cap has been worn off the lugs (first picture).
Personally, I would pass. I had one of these in steel with gold markers; that was a nice look and I felt the watch was more versatile. |

Thanks everyone - I just went back and asked for the first three digits (as questioning year of manufacture stated) and to clarify service history and gold (eg pink gold not available is that model) and was told to “go to hell, as this isn’t a chat forum” ... so, sadly, that’s my first vintage purchase off the cards
All legitimate questions I think, particularly as buying vintage and virtually - anyone responding with that degree of aggression to simple buyers questions raises a red flag to me ... he didn’t bank on your brilliant oracles asking him the right questions perhaps! Oh well, the search starts again! If anyone spots a small dial (6466/speedking etc) - ideally that is a little different or rose gold/steel then I would love to hear from you! Thanks again for helping me dodge a dodgy watch! |

The printing on some of these redials looks faint or washed out. I would look for one with less washed out print.

I love the look of rose gold and stainless. Here are two of my 31mm bubblebacks in RG/SS. I'm enormous, but I wear 31mms regularly. Although old, bubblebacks like to be worn, if size is not an issue, consider getting a BB if you like that look.
