Metal surround on pip

I'm looking at a 1680 with what I thought was a mk2 insert, now I see the wrong pip.
Also I wouldn't think a 5 mil serial # would have a long 5 insert...

I do have a proper insert already but still would like to know.

Weird. I think that 16800s should have that type of metal-surround pearl, but I don't think it's correct for a 1680.

Why would someone go through the trouble of jacking up a good insert to put in a surround?
I could see them doing it if the insert were bogus maybe...
