What’s going on with Sub prices?
A decent pre-owned 116610 is typically £10K or more pre-owned. I didn’t think the waiting list was that long. Are there really that many people prepared to pay a £3K premium rather than wait a couple of months?

Everything is on the rise. Even TT subs are fetching a large premium, despite being known for years as instant loss leaders.
Hell, even PM is at a premium now! |

The delta between buying from an AD vs grey is marginal for a black dial/black bezel Submariner relative to the likes of GMT, Daytona, Sky-Dweller.

If you have sufficient purchase history, agree it could be 2 months or less. If you don’t have much history or none at all, I think you’d be extremely lucky to source one from an AD in that timeframe. Some people on here have heard “years” — for a SubC. Everything is on the rise.

I contacted my AD for a standard LN Sub date back last summer. When the new model was released in September, they assured me I am on the list. Still waiting.

I’d give them a prod or try a different AD. I don’t the wait should be that long for a basic sub. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I picked up a 114060 as a walk-in back in January 2019, and that was a minor miracle at the time. |

You’ll wait years now in the U.K. and that’s if you’re lucky to be accepted onto a waiting list at all.

I’m 3 months on the list in UK for a sub, bit of history with AD but all they said was “no guarantees”.

Glad to see the used market for the 114060 around $11k to $12k.

The reason the 11 series is in such demand and is holding value is that people want them and Rolex aren't making any more of them. The 12 series is a completely different watch with a movement which is not universally regarded as bullet proof like its legendary predecessor. If you want a 12, that's fine. If you want an 11 you'll pay grey or forget it. |

Interesting. Is the new movement known to be less reliable, or is it just an unknown for sure?

Yep. I bought an unworn example of an 116610. I wanted a 3135, wide-lug, 20mm bracelet Submariner. |

I take the 11 over the 12 everyday, apparently not the only one

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=786299 I'm not putting the 11 series up for Pope or anything, but I personally prefer this model range in SS TT and PM. With three generations of highly regarded Subs (1, 11 and 12) still very much in common use and circulation, there is now pretty much something for everyone. At a price. |

People are having to jump through hoops to get an OP or even DJ41.
A “basic sub” is definitely a difficult acquisition from an AD these days without decent history (in most cases) |

Through the AD is possible with the right timing and connections. More than likely though you are going to wait and continue to wait. The difference between Grey pricing and AD is not significant enough to dissuade many. If it is about the watch and not the money then the course is clear for a Submariner. For a Daytona or other watch maybe not so much from a Grey. I buy Rolex almost exclusively from Grey's and think nothing about paying market prices. So far I have made money on flips when I want something else but that could change when the music stops and prices adjust. If that happens and even then I want all my watches so it would have to take a huge hit for it to change the market significantly. If you want a Submariner then go find a good example from a Trusted Seller, contact them and negotiate and get your best price. Pay and have the watch by lunch the next day and start the ownership experience. Good luck.
