Work on 1675 18k Gold

Hi all!

I am new to the forum!

My name is Salvatore from Italy but everyone calls me Sal.

Im not the best person with technology but I was told this would be the right place to share some of my work.

I am a watchmaker of 3rd Generation already. Co-Founded Rollieworks when I first came into the USA. Now I have decided to venture myself into my own shop.

That's about it for a short and not so boring introduction

I have plenty of works to share and I am working hard to improve on the quality of the pictures..

This work was done to a damaged Case of a 18kt Yellow Gold GMT 1675 I will let the pictures talk for me!

I am looking forward to be able to share my huge passion for horology and watchmaking.

Thank you for your time in looking at my pictures.

Greetings

Sal

Beautiful lugs, I think they have to be “enhanced”

How hard is it to get the gold color to match? There was a discussion on the other forum about how they changed the yellow gold in the past few years to a more honey gold…..and I would assume it’s always changing slightly….do you have to mix the gold you laser weld on there to the correct color and such??

Interesting, I thought laser welding was limited to stainless steel, assuming that your 'adding back material' is laser welding?

Looks great.

Laser welding stainless steel accounts for about 5% of my laser's use. Many companies make laser wire for a wide range of metals. I have around 25 different spools right now, gold, silver, platinum, titanium, stainless steel, and others in different colors and karats

I prefer welding gold cases, it's just easier to work with IMO.

Is a very subjective topic as the metal can evolve differently with years.
Since gold 18kt for example is not pure gold but a mixture of metals being in its majority gold of course. And we know the mixture of materials used by rolex for example in the 60's or 80's then yes we can match the color. It is not an easy job but we get there :)

I think someone jump ahead and replied before me but yes there is a wide range of materials that can be laser weld.
