Another "would you" thread...

I hope you are all having a great week!

I have been considering trading my Speedmaster (hesalite on leather) for the new Tudor chronograph white dial (would likely wear on the leather strap). My other watches are the Sub (no date) and a grey dial Datejust 41 (smooth bezel, jubilee). I know it's all about my preference, I always liked the Speedmaster but I just don't wear it that often and am looking to round out my 3 piece collection. Your thoughts are very much appreciated.

The Speedmaster is an iconic piece, but if you don't wear it then its time to find a replacement. Before you buy the Tudor you might consider some other great alternatives such as: the Zenith El Primero, Breiling Navitimer, TAG Heuer Carrera 160 years and the Breguet Type XX or Type XXI.

Trading a piece you don’t wear is not a bad idea, but not for that thing. I wouldn’t. Really don’t like those Tudors personally. They feel a bit too rough somehow and are too fat for what they need to be. The case is too square and the lug width too wide, I don’t know, the proportions are off and the watch is gruesomely lacking refinement as a result.

If you don't like or wear a watch it needs to go to a home who will appreciate and you need a watch you do like and will wear.

There are loads of alternatives to the Tudor. My favourites are the El Primero and the Carrera. Neither of them are made by Rolex and neither of them have a fat snowflake on the hour hand which obscures the sub dials.

I would try them both on first.

The Tudor is quite top heavy, my only criticism as I love it on bracelet. Perhaps they did it because people getting into watches make parallels with weight and prestige, who knows. However, it might wear a bit off balance on a leather strap if that’s what you want to do.

The speedmaster is a strap king and can wear so well on so many different straps. It’s iconic and just a classic no frills chrono.

But, ultimately, if you don’t wear it then what good is it owning it.

Agreed with prior comments. For some reason many Tudor watches are excessively thick and less elegant as a result in my view. I can’t really work out why this is.

Go for it. The Speedmaster isn't getting it's fair share of wrist time.

If you are not wearing something then move on.

My questions are, why will you wear the Tudor? Because it is new?

Have you tried changing up the Speedmaster? Put it on a strap for a new feeling.

Personally there is no way a Tudor could be a replacement for an Omega Speedmaster in my collection.

What is it about the Speedy that you aren’t wearing it?

I would not trade. If you can swing it, add the Tudor and let both of the watches be in the collection for a minute and decide. The Speedmaster is great and is a strap monster. Before you decide why not just put the Speedmaster on and wear it for a week or so, I bet you will change your mind. If not, move it along.

If you don't wear it then you do you.

I would never trade a Speedy for a Tudor plain and simple.

I wouldn’t do it, but if you’re not wearing the Speedy, the Tudor is certainly worth a try.

I love my Tudor BB58 in blue. It's not perfect.

I sold my Speedmaster (sapphire) last month. I hated to see it go, but it too didn't get much wrist time and it was a smidgen large for my svelte wrists and and so it went, and honestly I have little regret.

I can't speak to the Tudor other than to say that white hands on a white face can make it difficult to tell what time it is, and so for that reason, for me, I'd take a pass.

Sell the speedy if you don’t like it, but Omega>Tudor, so I’d get something else instead. But whatever works. You do you.

The Speedy is nice because it is a manual wind watch, which makes it great for a 3 watch collection! My Speedy doesn't get as much time as it used to but it makes me smile when I put it on. I always think to myself that I should wear this more! The Tudor chronos are a bit top heavy wearing on a strap. You can change up the look of the Speedmaster easily with new straps.

GREAT advice. I would say you might be in a place you want to move on but I would not go into the Tudor. They lack an elegance to me. I'd say hold out for something a little more $$$ like a GMT.

Agreed on the Zenith. I'm not a chrono guy but the El Primero is a must have

Like others have said, try it on first before you get your hopes up.

That Tudor is a chunky piece... IMO not the most aesthetic from the side profile

I would sell the speedmaster for a vintage speedmaster like 145.022 version; more character than the new watches.
If vintage is not for you, do the trade; the Tudor will hold value better.

The Sub No Date and the Speedy are a great pair. They are the two watches I have which I'll never move on..

I wouldn't do that swap myself.

Short term, no Tudor has held its value consistently so far that I know of.

Like others have said, definitely try on the Tudor first. Its proportions are vastly different than the Omega. Quality-wise, I would say they are in a similar balllpark. If you’re worried about investment value, that’s not my thing but Tudors do seem to shoot up at launch then even back out to reasonable prices unlike Rolex.

The look of the Tudor, I think, is beautiful head on, but, those cases are kind of “clunky”. The details are top notch though AND 200 meter WR is a nice added feature!!! I really like the black dial version!

No contest ... Speedmaster by a country mile.

Check out the just-released manual-wind Chronoscope speedies:

https://www.omegawatches.com/watches...oscope/product

The bronze gold Chronoscope is on my "gotta have" list.
