Not trying to be funny, but....
Hello all.
So, I have a modest watch collection compared to most here. 3 Rolex's, 1 Omega. Bought all new, never paid retail for any of them. I'm on a waiting list for the newish OP 41, with turqoise dial. Have a feeling could be waiting for years to obtain this watch WITHOUT paying more than retail. Which I won't. I know, I know, if you want it bad enough, pony up the difference. I get it. Just not me. So, in all seriousness, what might you recommend I do? Randomly call AD's in hopes a) they have it, and b) they will sell it to me? c) something else? Any sage advice from anyone?? Seems many obtained are being flipped for a significant profit. All good. Not begrudging someone wanting to make some easy dough. I just happen to wear my watches. Like my Hulk, which I could make some serious coin on now. But I love it, and wear it. Have payment instantly available. Take care everyone! |

Random walk-ins do more good than random phone calls, but there's a limit to what the luck will get you. Walk-ins might get lucky and get Submariners, Explorers, etc. but not steel Daytonas or Pepsi GMT's. Unfortunately the turquoise OP41 seems to be at the Pepsi GMT level of difficulty.

If there was a simple solution then there would be no Rolex shortage. Everyone's situation is different depending on location and the ADs they work with. The simplest advice is to keep trying ADs in your area and be proactive (without being annoying) in following up with them intermittently.

For the foreseeable future, You will not be able to acquire that specific dial color as a cold customer of any AD.
You may be able to obtain the more conservative dials colors , but if those are no interest and you won’t purchase on gray market, my advice is to move on from it. |

I just believe being honest with people. This model is as hard to get as a GMT or Kermit. The list on this variant is literally triple of any other color and almost every color is difficult to obtain.
If you don’t truly believe in your AD and how they allocate, you’re very likely not getting one. I’m not saying it’s good/bad/fair/unfair. Just being real with you on the demand for this one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Not a thing. Just posed a scenario. Though wanting to buy at retail, and wear, as opposed to buying to flip is, to me, apples and oranges.

Yea don’t bother with the ad unless you have friends in the business or have a long history with them. Better to go grey and get what you want when you want it. I have watches I’ve been waiting a year for already. Really pisses me off.

Precisely, that’s the answer to that question. The AD doesn’t really know you’re not a flipper and maybe they don’t care but you got stiff competition and you’re already late to the game.

Buy a few PM and if it’s a jewellery or AD with other brands, a few hundred thousand of whatever at retail … then ask for the OP41 turquoise

You managed anyway :)
Your story doesn't really mean much to the AD (other than flipping annoys Rolex and gets ADs in trouble). You'd still be walking in with $6K and walking out with near triple, they know that. Queue or pay 'market'. |

You know the score. It's a multi year waiting list or paying triple from a used jewelry salesmen. If you want to pay retail, just wait.
Grey prices will likely go down a bit if you're willing to wait as well. |

It’ll be very tough to get this piece. I’ve been trying as well and they just aren’t getting many.

You should not be okay with watches "being flipped for a significant profit."
It is not "okay." I won't even get into "making easy dough." Flipping cuts into the ability of the enthusiasts who REALLY want the watch <for wearing it> to get one. And that is partially why you cannot get one. Good luck with your effort, though. Like you, I would never pay the inflated "usurious" gray market prices. Let their kids go hungry if watches cannot be sold for a "reasonable" amount. Someday those thousands of gray market watches will have to move.

You're right. I suppose I wasn't interested in encouraging a mob attack by the flippers! Many here no doubt.
It's all good. |

Didn't even occur to me. It's clear buying this watch requires an extra 10K. I was a billionaire I wouldn't pay it. Principle.

Buy the cheapest OP41, I believe it's the silver dial, and ask the RSC to swap it for the blue dial.

Every second Friday, bring in bottles of champagne for all the salespeople. On the third Thursday of every month, bring in a nice single malt for the store manager. Do this at every AD within 300 miles. In under a year, you'll have an OP! Admittedly, the cost of this gambit will run about $12,300 and depending on distance, the time invested will be somewhere between 6 and 9 man-weeks. But it sure beats paying the gray premium!

Or one can do a bundle where they buy 30k in jewelry worth 15k they have no use for in order to "save" the 11k premium. Plus wait a year for the watch to come in. |

If you want this piece at retail then your best bet is to visit ADs in person. Since this is not an option for you then I suggest option c.

You pay for the service and new dial, and they keep the old dial. |

For the OP, go in to the AD. Be conversational and let them know your interest. Consider another purchase if anything strikes your fancy. You can get lucky sometimes but otherwise everyone is in the same boat basically. Good luck! |

Go see a hypnotist that can hypnotize you into no longer wanting a turquoise Rolex. It will be cheaper and faster.

If you really want the watch, you'll continue the hunt and that doesn't include getting scalped in the gray market.
Just keep trying and be polite and courteous in all your interactions. If this seems to be too much of a hassle, find something else to do with your time. You'll much happier in that case.
