Please rate my one- (two-?) watch collection

“In theory”, I am a one watch guy. I enjoy owning one watch at a time, and wearing it. I dislike the idea is owning watches that I don’t wear.

I have to have a second watch though for when I need an “actual sports watch” (ie when I’m out skiing, hiking, or at the gym), hence the need for the seiko. Tell me your thoughts.

You could easily wear the DD while out skiing (bulky sleeves, gloves) and hiking (if a bear's going to get the watch, it'll get you too). There's plenty of time information in a gym, so my thoughts are that you don't need the Seiko at all, nice though it is. Then you'll be a "one watch guy" not only in theory but in practice too, and, that dissonance dissolved, all will be well with the world.

Good pair. Both have their character and heritage.

I like your idea of 1 watch + 1 but I would try my hardest to make that +1 and EXP variant.

Nice watches. I might have enjoyed my collection back in the day when I owned a YG Daytona, SS Submariner Date and a Timex Ironman. Simple to choose based on activity.

There’s a lot of experts here that may provide little pearls of wisdom that help form a growing opinion that requires some input before being formulated.

I like your thought process.
If I’m doing something where I know it’s going to get banged up, I’ll throw on the orange monster.

Compared to the DD the Seiko is clearly the sportier of the two. But for the activities you list I’d prefer a G-Shock, Apple Watch, something made for hard impacts. I agree the DD can do all of these things, but why? They are tough but not indestructible. That Seiko is pretty nice in it’s our right, I’d hate to smash that up in a hard fall skiing, or having a weight land on it (a rare but not unheard of occurrence).

Fantastic duo. You have the 'granddaddy' Rolex and a great everyday beater to supplement.

yeah it's a common and great philosophy. Your DD is your main watch, and your seiko is your beater. Makes perfect sense. Both great choices!

Seiko!

That Seiko blows the doors off that stupid DD! Just kidding. I like your style. Looks perfect to me. Perfect combination!

I actually considered the g shock instead of the seiko. Maybe the “casioak”. In the end I opted for the seiko because it is metal, and just “looks better” IMO.

Your DD can be easily worn as a daily and makes the Seiko obsolete, unless you like to have more than one

I currently have 6 "field watch" so one seiko is fine to me haha. Although you kinda have watches from 2 extremes. I would maybe get a better field watch for activities.

Looks like a perfect combo to me. covers it all. I have Omega's, But wear a Tissot mostly. But now I have a Grand Seiko that I wear mostly at present.(It's new and still on the honeymoon)

Haha I actually considered that too. But I don’t think I’ll be able to use a Rolex “as a beater”. I know it’s supposed to be a “sports watch”, but the explorer is just too nice (and too expensive).

I have an SD43 for everyday wear. Built like a tank and has some heft to it. For dressier occasions I have a GMT Batman on Jubilee. My beater is an Apple Watch 44MM. On the hunt for a SkyD but that will probably never happen as I refuse to pay over MSRP for anything.
