Is AD dial swap on new Rolex DJ36 a ok procedure

Hello!

This is my first post on this fantastic forum.
I have read a lot of post and got lots of valuable information already.

Now, I have a question about a new Rolex DJ36 that I am planning to buy.
I was at my local AD yesterday and looked at a steel DJ36 with a black dial. This was exactly the model I wanted, except that I wanted to have a silver dial.

They then told me that they could replace the dial to a silver dial and also showed me this dial protected in a plastic casing, this would take one or two days and I can then get the watch.

First I thought this was a great gesture, but later I started thinking if this is a ok and approved procedure with a brand new Rolex watch?
Is this something that is done often at AD?

Regards
Stephan

As long as the dial is available for your refence watch not a problem if its changed by a authorised Rolex AD. But get some official paperwork from them stating dial was changed by them.

Yup, completely normal from an AD. No issues as long as the dial comes on your reference in the first place.

Yes it is normal, as long as reference is the same. If you downgrade your dial (like from dismond marker to no diamond) likely you can keep both. If reference not the same, you cannot swap it, or the new dials are not yet accessible like Palm dial etc.

Call me odd, but I'd cringe at the thought of opening the case of my brand new Rolex.....I'd wait for the one I really wanted...just me.

Deal is basically done...
I have contacted them and asked for a dial swap.
I have been booked in on saturday at 12:00 AM for delivery.
Wife will be informed when I get home from work (she have given me a preliminary approval earlier).

Yes it is a bit weird that they will open up and work on a new watch but I see it this way:
This will happen within a couple of years anyway when the watch is being serviced, so its a natural part in a mechanical watch's life.

Best Regards
Stephan

Couple of years?
I've had my 36 over 21 years and still never serviced.
