Daytona Black Steel Trade Question

I have a daytona stainless steel black dial 2020 and my friend has a daytona white gold blue dial 2020. He wants to trade for mine and extra 20 grand cash for it. Do you guys think it is worth it?

Welcome. Seems like a fair trade based on market values. Up to you to decide if it’s worth it though. I’d rather have the ss daytonaC over the wg pm one

I really like the SS but the blue dial on the wg looks really nice except for the bezel. What does PM mean?

Unless you like the WG then no? It’s a great watch but the blue dial is a little mehhh. It looks quite similar shade to the ones on DJ36/41.

I would personally not do it.
But I prefer the ceramic bezel on the Daytona which makes the watch visually bigger.

This is the WG blue face with WG bracelet? Yes, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Gorgeous!

I have a black 116500 and I would never do this trade! The steel ceramic is much more versatile and the metal bezel is a scratch magnet…

I personally wouldn't do the deal. On looks alone, I like the black plus ceramic bezel better. However, if the gold bezel were in clean condition, it seems like the deal works on your favor -- and by that I don't mean secondary prices, I mean if you could have bought the WG watch for SS list price plus $20k USD, that's cheaper than the list price of the WG watch.

In my opinion, if you're going to go PM on a Daytona, go yellow gold and do the bracelet. I like my 116508 a lot. I also really like my SS black dial Daytona. The ceramic bezel looks great with the black dial and it's a really comfortable, relatively lighter wearing watch.

So if I were you, I'd keep my SS Daytona. If you want a PM one, better to add it.

I would do it based on aesthetics alone, IMO.

If I’m reading your post correctly…he’s also offering $20k? Wow.

Consider this… Currently on WatchBox:
-SS Daytona black dial for $34k
-WG Daytona blue dial for $56k

(Remember that you would be unlikely to sell your watch for these amounts, but just for frame of reference.)

I understand the SS model will always be more sought after but I still think you’re being offered a great deal.

I think his wording is very confusing. He is the one that has to pay additional $20k for WG Daytona.

I wouldn’t make that trade. The ceramic bezel not only protects the watch from daily use but also makes it so much more sporty/contemporary design. You have to go Platona to get a ceramic bezel in PM and says a lot on its design element.

The PM is a much rarer bird, go for it

Quite the contrary.......much easier to obtain a PM Daytona vs SS. Not saying the PM is easy to get but a lot easier.

Personally I’d try and buy the wg Daytona then letting go of the black ceramic one. My comments has nothing to do with the value. Just think you may miss the black ceramic at a later date. I know i would.

I’d rather keep the steel Daytona and buy an additional HH watch for the $20k

I have the black 116500 and I LUST over the blue 116509…so much I’ve made close offers on one by trading my sub + Daytona + cash…never had the guts to add the extra 1-2k needed for the trade to work though…

Long story short I wouldn’t. I’ve been so close and it was the additional cash I needed to add…it was more the “it was too even of a trade”.

I personally would not do this trade. I have the black ceramic Daytona and I also have a 116509 WG Daytona with a Silver racing dial and I love both pieces but the SS black ceramic is a more versatile robust piece and the fact that one is PM doesn't really make a huge difference in the look of the watch. The WG is a gorgeous piece that I love but if I had to own only one for daily wear it would be the SS/black/ceramic. Neither watch is very legible so if you actually want to tell the time at a glance on the fly I'd wear a Sub (which I'm wearing now at this moment) but that's another story. You don't buy a Daytona for it's functionality any more than you take a supermodel out on a date to hear her take on politics.

I'd do it if you like the blue Daytona.

Cashing on in the SS hype allows you to get a much rarer piece below MSRP.

I would do that in a heartbeat. You’re essentially getting a $40k watch for $30k and it looks much nicer

Wait. Which way is the $20k going?

A. You get 20k and PM Daytona for your SS black dial?
Or B. you get PM Daytona for SS Daytona and you give him 20k?

Big difference.
