Rolex GMT 1675 in Old Harper's Bazaar

I had to share this great photo of a 1675 GMT on rivet bracelet worn by the model Patti Hansen (now married to Keith Richards), shot in the Swiss Alps in 1979 for the Jan. '80 issue of Harper's Bazaar. My father, the photographer Albert Watson, actually took this photo.

Keep in mind that this was not a Rolex ad. It's an editorial fashion shoot, so it's rare to see a Rolex so prominently displayed like this in a non-ad. Very cool!

Lefty?

I wonder if she is a lefty or wearing a watch on the right arm was a fashion choice as well.

Yes, indeed, thanks. He's been doing it since the 1960s, and is still going strong and working all the time, although nowadays a lot of his attention is in the gallery and museum worlds. We work together.

It's a stark perspective to see the 1675 captured in time as the current model with its white lume plots..looks so new in that photo.

Great shoot, thanks for sharing.
Long time ago I move to NY from Italy to work assisting all the top fashion photographers, often shooting at Superstudio (now Industria) and met your dad few time.
Top classy photographer, was a pleasure to see his work!

That’s a really cool image by your father Aaron.
Perhaps a bit of foreshadowing of your future collecting habits!

Very cool shot and thank you for sharing your story! I would love to be able to pick up a fresh GMT like that.

I'm impressed by your fathers work. I've seen some pictures before, wasn't aware of the name that was behind it.

Out of curiosity, did your dad make the switch to digital or stay with film? It's always interesting to know what the OGs did. :)

I'll bet it was a conscious decision to leave the watch figured so prominently in the pic, it's really quite interesting that he did. Excellent composition! :)

Thanks, all! My dad’s old school but also embraces modern technology. He shot exclusively on film until 2011, late in the photo world, and is now mostly digital. He took the well-known portrait of Steve Jobs on film in 2006, and Jobs was shocked he wasn’t shooting digitally by that time.

I need to go through his archives to see if I can find any other Rolexes prominently displayed.
