? re the Day-Date hyphens

Dries posted this pic in the “Gratuitous” thread here, back in early Sept.

I understand there are/were a very few genuine non-Wide Boy dials without the hyphen in “Day-Date,” but I think this may be only the second photo I’ve seen. (The lume plots and minute track are also unusual for a pie-pan dial.)

Does anyone have any more info about this no-hyphen-DD phenomenon (or have any thoughts on this dial)? E.g., is this only seen on 4-digit references? Are they perhaps service dials?

Dries, if this dial and paint are factory original as far as you know, what serial range is the case?

I don’t know. My father has it on his 1803 linen sigma dial. It is a 1975 one.

I didn't want to chime in as I am not an expert, but that dial looks funky af, especially certified chronometer text below.

I also assumed repaint, but then I wondered who would make the stamp so wrong, and why? It’s not like there are lots, real or repaint, with this quirk.

It's a very rare error re-dial - very few out there ....

Lots of no hyphen examples out there if you start looking. I agree the dial looks different but the fonts look familiar. No expert on Day Dates but I think it's genuine.

Agree. I've had several 1803s, some with the hyphen and some without. I know they weren't redials.

Have a look at the 1803s on the HQ Milton site as a good resource for examples.

https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/search?q=1803

Both types appear there, although non-hyphen is rarer.

Both the hyphen and non-hyphen types definitely came from the factory, but I'm not sure of dates/serial number ranges. Non-hyphen seems to appear more on Wideboys.

...to make matters even more complicated/confusing...some DDs also have a hyphen between "OYSTER" and "PERPETUAL":
