Fair buy? Odd model? If you like the watch buy it, it's a lovely model and one of my favorites in the catalog. I like that it's underrated and not hyped.

It’s a beautiful watch and the prices are skyrocketing for them. Just 2-years ago non-TT was $11k. It’s also the most comfortable Rolex IMO.

They don't command the crazy premiums other models do, so in a sense they're good buys if you absolutely love them.

I have always been a fan of the YM, as my preferred Rolex. I may be in a solid position in the next couple of months that I could pick one up - probably in the Rhodium dial.

My issue: MSRP on them is $12K. A relatively quick search of some of the well know grays suggests that the going rate for unworn condition is just shy of $18K. That's a hard, hard pill to swallow.

That said, I think it's a great watch, and if you like it, I would 100% buy it. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

It does wear a little smaller than a Sub for a GMT due to the case profile, but it's a beautiful and massively underrated piece IMO.

I have a 16628 and consider myself little more than an aspirational yacht owner. Steel, TT, full gd - they are easy wearing. Look great. Favorite Rolex model I've ever owned! Get one if you like it.

Honestly, I don’t care what others’ opinions are….what they’re selling for new/used….or if I ‘need to own a yacht to wear one’.

Bottom line is it is a stunning watch that stands out from the crowd. I love it, therefore I own it. Simple as that.

i think it's their best sports watch. it's contouring and slim case, along with the beautiful polished oyster bracelet, makes it far more elegant than the sub and gmt line. at the same time, you get precious metal and a wide "diver-style" bezel to complete the sports watch aesthetic. I'm a bit surprised that it's not more popular as it is the perfect "one watch collection" piece as it hits the bases of both a modern sports watch and a polished piece of jewelry.

If i wanted something dressier, I'd get a DJ.. if I wanted a "rugged tool watch," i'd, get a sub. Although both classics, the truth is that I find the DJ less versatile and too dressy , and the sub to be common and boring (at least the standard steel/black models).

In terms of pricing, it's a bit odd that the sub and YM are sold at similar prices, given the how much extra manufacturing must go into the finishing of the watch and bracelet (not even considering the platinum).

Also, the YM made me a lover of steel bracelets. Unlike the steel subs, the YM's bracelet is actually eye-catching and beautiful. Prior to the YM, I always found steel bracelets boring and opted to always use a strap. After trying the YM on a few different strap options, I decided that nothing was better than that beautiful YM steel bracelet.
