GoodWatch's odd side

No, not the perceived Gin infused pipe dreams laden with opulent food (Well, not in this case ).

I like to browse the local (not eBay) auction sites. Today I purchased a NOS vintage wood Dunlop tennis racket with pre-synthetic strings and wooden clamp for 14,95 including postage. Why? I dunno. It seemed like a bargain and I like vintage sporting goods. Anne will most probably sigh and raise her eyes when it arrives but hey, I'm just a grown-up boy

It was in the spur of the moment. Items I also bought in the past are a Nomex flight suit (35 Euro), a 50's live preserver (May West vest, US 50$), an early 20th century Dutch copy of 'A Christmas Carol' (5 Euro) and a vintage Top Pop T-shirt. The latter is the Dutch version of the UK 'Top of the Pops' and the T-shirt that I now own was never issued to the general public. It was only given to the artists that starred in the show. It is ca. 1974 and I will not divulge what I paid for it. Not even under threat of torture

Am I alone in this or does TRF sport more members that do as I do?

I just got home from the mall with 7 dresses and I don't like a single one.

Does that count?

Well, a couple of years ago I purchased the entire series of vintage Nikon F film cameras. Why, I don't know. I just wanted to have them. And I am only an amateur photographer. They are pretty awesome though.

Everytime I sign on to these forums they are starting to sound more like "True Confessions." (LOL). Here's my questions: Do you have enough storage space in your house to store everything? Also, do you ever tire of some of your acquisitions and sell them? Does your primary joy coming from "unearthing" these items or owning them? Do I ask too many damn questions for someone from Philly? (There is a house near me and everybody thinks it's an antique store. Wrong!!! I'll take a picture of the lawn and post it because no words I'd pick would correctly convey to you the image. If Anne gives you any grief, Frans, you can show her the picture.)

If you enjoy the process of finding and owning these items and they are affordable, knock yourself out!!!

I have those moments as well. It may be watches, it may be Macintoshes, or Legos. I'm a big sucker for Legos. I guess cars are on that list too (1974 Eldorado with plans to acquire at least one more vintage auto). Currently my doctoral student income limits what I can purchase, but come August, open the flood gates.

There is absolutely enough storage space in our house to store everything......BUT....that doesn't happen because I can't get Al to part with junk. My "dream home" has always been one that has neatness and order in every room. Unfortunately, we don't share that same dream.

Nancy, it must be a guy thing because my wife complains about the same thing, the accumulation of stuff/ junk(her words), I call them treasures!!!
Frans, I do not go on to auction sites but am in the ongoing process of acquiring antique/old watering cans and hand pruners.....

My teachers told me the Statue of Liberty was in the New York harbor. They couldn't have been more wrong. If you look at the left side of the picture, you will see it's in my 'hood! I could only get this one picture (taken from my car) as a huge German Shepherd made a beeline for me and my vehicle. This shows a very small area of someone's lawn, yes their private home in Huntingdon Valley, PA (an affluent Philly burb). Everyone who passes by thinks it's an antique shop. I believe I hear the "Sanford and Son" theme song.

Frans my dearest friend, you are asking whether I trawl websites and shops looking for items that provide me with the tiniest of links to the halcyon days, those seemingly endless summers of my childhood? Those times when it never seemed to rain and you could ride a bicycle all day in blazing sunshine without tiring? When coke came in green bottles and chocolate bars were bigger and cheaper? When TV sitcoms were actually funny and pop stars released there music on tangible black vinyl discs? When your national football side actually seemed like having a chance at winning the World Cup?

Errrmmmmmm, let's not even go there, it'll only get Claire moaning again at how I waste money on things we don't need!!!!!!!!!!!!!

J

PS One day I'm getting a stainless steel led pulsar watch i she likes it or not!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do they get away with it? All that junk in the yard my wife would have a field day getting rid off all the stuff.

There goes that redneck thing again!

Or that explains why you've had 16 wives?
