Which watch should I keep? 16710 or 16570
I would like to know your opinion on which watch I should keep?
16570-Polar complete with box, papers and tag (2002). Almost mint. 16710-Coke with box only (1996) Tritium. Case has multiple dings. Dial is clean. Thank you everyone. |

16710 - no question.
16710 is Rolex's most versatile watch with three bezel inserts. Throw in a Jubilee bracelet and you've really got some options. If you don't plan to sell, box with no papers is a non-issue. Selling a mint polar 16570 complete set will be easy peasy. /thread

Keep the one you like the most.
Why would you let others tell you which one to keep? or are you looking for info regarding value?

And if the 16710 in question is the same pictured in your avatar, that faded bezel is too good to let go.

No-brainer, Polar for me... love a white dial Rolex, esp. the older 40mm Exp II. The fact that it is a complete set, mint condition, and newer are all just icing on the cake.

Thanks Mitch. I really like the Polar better, but I feel guilty to let the 16710 go. I don't know what to do hence asking everyone's opinion.

The polar 16570 is my favorite Explorer II. 40mm makes so much more sense than 42mm, IMO.
But the versatility of the 16710 is undeniable. Suppose it also depends on what else you have in your collection. If you have other black dials, maybe the polar is the way to go.

16710 would be the one to keep for me. You've owned a 1675 and now a 16710, so you clearly know and appreciate the GMT-Master's history.
The 16570 history as a spelunker's watch with the fixed 24 hour bezel was originally just to let the wearer know whether it was night or day outside the cave; the original 1655 Explorer II didn't even have an independently adjustable hour or 24 hour hand for displaying a second time zone. I do like the steel bezel and general appearance of the 16570 polar, but wish the bezel rotated. With the 3186 movement and independently adjustable hour hand, though, it accommodates a second time zone like the 16710, so the lack of that feature in the earlier versions is mute. I'd keep the 16710 because of the GMT-Master history and the versatility of being able to change bezel inserts and bracelets. Just my $.02. |

In Post #5 he said the avatar photo is of his earlier 1675, since sold.

Also, I would feel like letting none of them go….but if you like the Polar better keep it. There are less full sets of Polars around than Cokes.

I personally don't believe the original papers are important when selling if you've had the watch serviced by an RSC and have the warranty card and service documentation.

Really a toss up. Could go either way. What do you like and use primarily or feel more attached to?

I prefer the GMT. As others mentioned, it is much more versatile - at least for me.

16710. You like it better and of the two that's the one I'd keep.

I appreciate every single comment. What I noticed is that no one mentioned that the 16710 is missing papers. I am glad that it’s irrelevant to keeping the watch or not. I guess the 16710 stays. Thanks all.

Between the two, your 16710 Coke would be the keeper for me! I am looking at the evidence that you give, with the Polar being near mint and the Coke having multiple dings in the case. It sounds like the Coke gets quite a bit more wrist time, and shows that you like it over the Polar too?
