opinions about tag Heuer
What are the opinions of the brand? it seems to be less popular than Omega. I'm just wondering as I don't see a lot of forums for that watch brand

Just my .02
Nice watches, lots of designs many of them quartz. They seem to be moving back toward a more serious attempt at inhouse production of movements but the bottom line for me is that their brand has msrp's like Omega but the resale value is even worse. Most Tag's I see are at least 60% off msrp in the secondary market. Too steep a drop for me to consider even with a 30% discount from an AD.

I have a Heuer and a Tag Heuer. Both watches are definitely very solid watches. I have to agree with Brian though, resale is what hurts these watches the most and their usage of quartz movements, even though they do have automatic offerings. They definitely try to be trendy. Ever since they were bought out by LVMH, they just haven't been the same despite their attempts to move them upmarket. They are great watches, and many people like them. I do, but my Rolex is my real love.

Agree with Brian 1000%, we could debate their quality all day and they may very well be comparible to an Omega but the public perception is that Omega makes a better watch, at least based on the resale value so that's a very real consideration for anyone about to drop 2K on a watch

I have this as my everyday beater watch and I absolutely love it. It is the Aquaracer Chrono Automatic DayDate. It is 43mm.

LVMH = Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA
This is the parent company for many brands (including LV and Hennessy) and other watch companies.

Check out all their brands: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LVMH (this is accurate, matches my output in Hoover's)

tags are good watches - but i don't think they are as good as omega. in fact, i believe that for the equivalent dollar value - you would get more watch if you purchased a japan-only seiko model. that being said, my f1 has been a great performer.

I've had a bunch of Tag's over the years and they all held up well through all the abuse an active teenager can throw at it. Although I did rust up the insides when I went to the beach with the crown unscrewed (dumb move).
Huge range of styles available from retro to modern with a lot of instantly recognizable lines in between such as the Link, F1, Professional series.' ETA movements all the way but I believe they're working on their own. Durable enough but they don't feel as durable as Omega's for some reason. Again, heavily discounted lending them the image of the "Starter" Swiss Brand. Still above Longines, in my opinion, though.

I like the more classic models, like the monaco and carrera, but I think the mainstream lines suffer because they sell in such volumes - they are a bit too ubiquitous, and I expect that is what hurts resale.

i actually do like Tag watches - especially the older styles (my wife can not stand Tag watches for some reason....)
had this since 1995 i think - still gets some wrist time (very little). it has loads of battle scars and is very comfortable to wear. it isnt as big as the current F1 range. |

The price to change the battery (and check water tightness) is also excesssive, which also hacks of customers pretty quickly.. |

They make decent watches, I chose a Carrera rather than a Speedie, imho it felt a better watch. And nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe.

Tag is a very popular brand, but it is generally considered far below Omega.
I also agree Tag is a product of successful marketing. But I think Rolex is too. Omega, honestly, has lagged behind in this department. In fact, I have seen VERY FEW powerful Omega advertising campaigns. The only one I remember in recent years is the latest TV ads, with JFK talking about "going to the moon." And ultimately, I guess, they aren't even that great spots . . . it's just one of the only compelling visuals I've seen from Omega in a long while that reach a mass audience. |

Something about them still makes me feel they are "budget" watches. They are by far inferior to Rolex, Omega and Breitling. I would recommend saving up and getting something a little more higher-end...

I've enjoyed this Steve McQueen Monaco. I would rate Tag under Omega as Tag has spent more effort on the sizzle than the steak. However, lately they have put much more emphasis on the art of watchmaking.

Tag makes some great watches. I have never owned one, but I know a few people who do. They don't have many bad things to say. In passing they all say someday I will buy a Rolex for now the tag will do.

I am simple man, just need a simple watch for timekeeping.
Couldn't really find one model in Tag. Rolex fulfill my needs. |

We're digging up some old threads here! Dan, is the bracelet on that watch as comfortable as it looks? It sure looks as though it would wear nicely. While I'm in here, can't resist a shameless plug for my old Heuer Carrera from the pre-TAG days.

Al, yes it is. The bracelet is very robust with the ability to remove multiple links, if necessary, making it easy to create a great fit and center the milled clasp. Love your chrono. Have you seen the Heuer Kentucky chrono? Found these on the net. dP
