Hey all, I'm new to this forum and was hoping to gain some opinions on if this Explorer ii is real (from what we can see on the outside). I plan to take it to a watch repair place soon to get them to open the case back. But this is what I have for now.
The weight is 126g at 11 links I apologize if this is in the wrong section. Thanks! |

I’m not an expert by any means but I would say no not real. The brushing on the case looks too course and unrefined.

I dont see anything that stands out that shouts fake. Looking at the bezel the watch looks properly worn but no scratches in the bracelet. The bracelet has probably been re-brushed which might explain why it looks a bit unrefined as the previous penson mentions. What concerns me most are the "E's" on the dail that seem positioned a bit low. But to be sure; take it to a watchmaker.

The paint on the GMT hand (orange to black) is rough. Get us the clasp codes for the bracelet.

I would be very suspect. The clasp and the GMT hand are not to standards.

Something is off to me with this one…
If it is real I would not want it because it reminds me of a watch brand of lesser quality… It is not perfectly crisp and too sloppy looking up close for a newer model Rolex…

The OEM paint on the GMT hand can look a bit heavy handed under light and magnification. Even so, that paint does look a bit on the thick side. I'd be inclined to think the watch is genuine based on owning the Polar version of that watch. Not that I am an expert.
I don't know if it's the angle of the light but the dial looks a bit shagged. This is a concern. Also, there is a scratch either on the hour hand or the sapphire directly above it on the photo supplied. Has someone been rummaging around inside it? If in doubt, get it professionally authenticated. It's easy to do. Or send if off to Rolex for a service. |

I have a black 216570 and all I'll say is that the GMT hand on mine isnt exactly perfect either. The clasp is just the old "sand blasted" version versus the newer polished one. I've bought 2 from my A D over the last 10 years. Older and newer clasp finish. Looks ok to me but I'm far from an expert

Can't tell by the pics but do you feel the odd hour markers are evenly distanced? Could simply be the angle of the pics but looks to be inconsistent?

I feel like anyone asking if a Rolex is real... Should just buy from a forum sponsor.
But that's me. I'm a simply guy. |

Very hard to tell from pics- but clasp looks ill fitted when closed, as well as heavily rebrushed maybe ? Can't discern if the hand stack is correct, but the hands do look overly rough and the dial looks very dark grey instead of matte black. The edge of the bezel, where it meets the crystal looks inconsistent in shape and, as PoweredbyJae said, the triangle hour indices on the bezel look to be different distances from the inner edge.
I'd say fake and someones swopped out the crystal for a genuine with AR under the cyclops...

Update: watch is indeed real. Authenticated by big gray marker dealer
For anyone’s future reference |
