Wonderful visit to AD
So today I had a few spare minutes and figured I would stop by the AD and see if I might be able to find an early 90s GMT Master II that was identical to the one I traded in on my Submariner. I kick myself for letting that beauty go but at the time I saw no need to have two watches. What was I thinking?!?
Now, I have seen pictures of the new models although I have never seen one in person so I figured I would take a look. My gosh, I was just blown away at the pure beauty of the new family of watches. Mark spent at least and hour or so with me talking, laughing, showing me several different models, and answering all the questions I had. I left with some literature and a new-found respect for the newer models. For a long time my head was stuck in the early 90s when it comes to Rolex but after seeing the new ones...I am a changed man. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? |

Yes. I fell in love with the 16610 on sight and promised myself that if I could ever justify spending so much money on something as frivolous and unnecessary as a watch, I would buy one.
The time came and I visited my local AD. We knew them well but had never been in for a Rolex. Back then you could just walk in and point at it. I couldn't believe how tinny and flimsy it was. A green bezel insert just couldn't compensate. I saw a lot of pictures of the 116610LV when it was released and subsequently, and couldn't like it. Too gaudy. Too flashy. Even more expensive. Then I met one. The depth of quality in both feel and finish just knocked it out of the park. Worth every penny. Or at least, worth it at MSRP. Rolex addressed all the shortcomings of its predecessor and then kept going for some distance. |
