Does this trade make sense?
I am considering selling two of my watches and getting one gold watch. The deal is sale of my full set 2005 16613 Serti, slate dial submariner + sale of my unworn partial stickered 116613 blue dial submariner. The second watch is rare as it is a 2020 watch with new style green card. I would part ex both for a full set 2008 full gold 16618 Serti dial, champagne submariner. The full gold sub is immaculate with a 2020 Rolex service. I would need to add £8k/$10k cash as well.
I love the Serti dial and this consolidation of 2 to 1 submariner is keeping me up at night. I also have in the collection the 116610 LV, 126610 LV and a full set 2007 16600 sea dweller. What do you guys think? Thanks. |

I would personally trade those two for a DD40/36 and not another full gold sub. I rather see some diversity in my collection and all subs.

The problem now is that full gold pieces have gone up soooo much that their rise has been much much more than TT pieces.
Now is as good as any other to upgrade to full gold because the hype of gold has just been on the up and up. Plus when gold pieces go up they go up ALOT faster. Look at the prices of all Rose Gold DD40s - absolutely nuts. They are trading for more than gold sports models. Even full YG 126618LB is touching $60k now!! $60k!!!!! |

It’s been a strange journey. I’ve bought and sold a number of pieces especially in lock down. Day dates, GMT even Oysterquartz. I have naturally gravitated towards subs. I am happy with submariner and don’t want diversity for the sake of diversity. Also seem to be gravitating to 5 digit reference as well. I guess it’s the £8k/$10k that is niggling. |

The green card is what makes it rare?

Does not seem like a great deal value wise. A straight swap maybe. 10k on top No.

Curious: if gold Sub were available at MSRP, what would AD give in trade? That’s the only way I see doing it, but I also:
Don’t like jeweled dials Don’t like 11 series Sub case shape Don’t see trading an almost-new watch for one almost old enough to drive |

Not a fair trade.
**but to be honest, I didn’t read any of the post, I’m just so used to trade threads being whacked out that I figured this would apply here** |

Look at the money here - basically low wholesale on your trade and retail on the new. The Serti's are cool - not for everyone. I'd think you can work the deal to be better. I don't oppose the trade in terms of watches but I do in terms of value.

Converting to $USD I am getting offered $34.5k for my two subs and the serti is up for $44.5k. It’s tough to find a late model serti with no holes case, full set. Hard to know what the price of the serti is. I figure it’s relatively fair for my two watches but again not 100% sure. |

It’s the amount of cash..l I would try to see if you could get that down. I do agree the 5 digit in gold is nicer overall IMHO than the 6 digit generation

You have looked into it - buy the watch and enjoy it. Up and down a few K doesn't matter over a long period of time. |

I would definitely try to do the trade with 5k or less out of pocket as I believe in striking deals while the iron is hot.
You already know how much you want it so why not tighten the screws on the seller to make a deal happen. Once it’s yours I’m sure you won’t be sorry. I have its sibling 16758 Serti GMT Master with tight jubilee bracelet that I picked up last year by wheeling/dealing and absolutely won’t unload it anytime soon. Only you know your cutoff limit but I would try to make it happen with a bit less cash.

The SS/TT to full PM consolidation is something I expect a lot of collectors are considering at the moment. I keep dancing around it and mentally going back and forth. For me, the problem is what to consolidate. I love all my watches and they all have some meaning and intrinsic value not to do with money. IMO a straight swap is OK if you really want to lose the two Subs. It sounds like maybe you don't? |

I think trading the two TT Subs for one full gold is a good move but not at + 10k.

Understand you're keen on the serti dial, and hey, that's cool. But, at the same time, I don't think you're getting the bang for your buck giving up 2 watches for 1 full gold serti - seeing how you've already got one, albeit in TT. I think a better move would be trading the 116613 for a newer full gold model with glide lock, and keeping the serti. Win win. My two cents... |
