My brother-in-law, his rejected Daytona at retail and plot twist. Part 2.
Ok everyone, the story that I shared recently got so much heat and discussion that I decided to share what happened next.
If you didn’t see what happened originally you can find it here: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=846170 So, we have a plot twist. Last weekend my brother in law decided to go there again and speak with the main manager that handles everything at that AD. Side note, I saw a lot of questions on first post about my BIL’s spending history and he spend there a lot, definitely not a whale and number one spender at that AD but he left a good chunk of money over there for sure. So, they were talking, he was saying that sorry that I overreacted, he was excited to get that grail watch and got really disappointed when saw it was not it, and so on. Side note, manager is a VERY VERY nice man, he helped me acquire 36mm turquoise op for my gf when they just came out. Anyway, manager listened to him, they had a very good talk and he was like, you know what, let me make it up to you. He went to the back and came back with GMT Pepsi on a jubilee. He offered him to buy it and said that the next Daytona white dial that they will receive will be allocated to someone else, but the second one would be his for sure whenever it will come. My BIL being a smart person gladly bought Pepsi and he’s looking forward to get his white dial Daytona one day. What a crazy story. I originally thought he was wrong by not taking whatever was offered to him, but for him it worked out perfectly. |

Because the AD respects his first decision and knows he is not a flipper. I just got an email the other day for the VC blue dial overseas. I wanted it in the past, but I am a Rolex guy and know I would not wear it as much as I should. Could I have flipped it? Yes, but honestly not worth the effort for me, plus in my mind I would lose watch collection integrity if that makes sense. Save it for the other person in line that really wants it.

Fantastic outcome. Good on your BIL for revisiting and explaining his initial reaction and for the manager being understanding. Great way to reset things, and big congrats to your BIL for his new GMT

So the AD substitutes a BLRO for the black dial Daytona in this scenario.
Glad they appear to have things worked out |

Spot on. The AD respected the buyer and his decision. It also very clearly vetted him as a non-flipper.

Not sure why people are surprised he turned down the first one. The white dial is totally different to the black dial, so why would he take the black dial when he knows he would then never get a white one, the one he actually wants.
He did the right thing, and it’s worked out. Funny how often that happens, a lot of folk could take note. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And you can tell AD was being very genuine in saying “you’re still not getting next Panda, but second.”

So boring. I feel sorry for you guys who think watches are about these backstories. This one is particularly sad, a proxy thread for your bil? Really? Yes really and now part II, lol

Sounds like a classy and well treated BIL!
@LVx2, it's 2022. Since there are no watches and incomings to enjoy, we have to settle for the backstories! @Chiboy, I think we're all a bit onery now! If can't land one of those swatch speedies...I think I'm going to have to find a new hobby. Lol. |

It doesn't count without a photo. Well, maybe it counts, like a completely true story made of moss and ferns ...

Owning up to his previous douchebaggery was the way to go. He is lucky he got a second chance. Congrats to him on the pickup.
