Depends on the model, the desirability and the seller. A 127 or a 217 that is not complete will still bring a significant amount but with the box and papers it is worth much more than $1500 difference. Sorry I can not be more specific.

I agree with $1500 for watches that cost over $6-$7K

Box and papers help with authenticity and legitimacy of the seller. I’d be wary of a seller with little to no feedback selling a watch w/o documentation. I honestly wouldn’t buy it myself. I’d rather pay the extra price for the peace of mind. Which is why $500-$1500 come off the price. The actual value of a paper is $0, it’s the peace of mind

It is not just price, box/papers will be easier to sell.

Personally, I wouldn't touch a PAM w/o box & papers, at least not the classic models. They used to be one of the most commonly faked watches out there during the hype years.
If you personally knew the seller & was positive it was legitimate, sure. But even then, if you ever expected to resell it, you'd take a bath. |

In regards to myself. I prefer box and papers. Without, you really have to know what you are buying, who is the seller, and possibly history of the watch.
I remember many years ago, watch owners would toss the box and papers. These days, not so much. Just the box and papers can be found for crazy prices online Lol. Panerai models differ from each other. I only own one Panerai, and i purchased from BNIB from AD. So definitely not an expert. So in general, figure if you wanted to buy the box and papers later, what they would cost you. Know what you are willing to spend/afford for the watch. Every model is different and do some research. Negotiate and see what is possible. I think, its a give and take thing. Seller might be trying to make a profit or recover some of what he paid for it initially, for servicing, etc. You are trying to buy it at a good price. If both parties are happy with what they are getting, based on proper information, then it's a great deal. |
